Election day thoughts

Somehow I am becoming apathetic.

No matter who I vote, taxes are still absurd, the school teachers still need to handle more sections than humanly possible, roads are still terrible and so on. Oh and political violence is yet another factor.

*sigh*

Why does it seem that I am only choosing the people who seem to be less evil than their opponents?

Is there really hope for the Philippines? Does my vote really count especially in this day and age where ‘dagdag-bawas’ is rampant?

Crap. I sound so pessimistic, don’t I?

And now I am listening to the radio about vote-buying in Novaliches. And I hear about vote-buying in Caloocan too.

Why do people let themselves be ‘bought’? Some of them just do it to get the cash and vote for someone else. Why? They think that it’s really what’s right because they think it’s their money (people’s money) anyway so they are just taking it back from the politicians. Others participate in the vote-buying scam because they are going to get paid for the lesser evil of the candidates so they might as well. Bottom-line though is that people get more money even if it’s just in an instant. They use the money for food, or fare. Depending on the case, really.

We seem to have become a people so deprived of good choices.

But as someone once told me, I still have a choice. We still have choices to make.

Today, I swear that I hope that I am making the right choice, no matter what I base my choice on.

On dancing

Have you seen two teenagers dance? Sometimes they try to make themselves look elegant but they are still clumsy sometimes. It is something that could look quite cute, if you think about it. When does it look cute? When they are both open about how clumsy they are and they could laugh about it. But if they can't do that, or if they won't, it just looks as though they are trying to go with the flow but not feeling it. When it comes to dancing, you also have to feel the music.

And there are also those who enjoy the dance but their partners seem reluctant to take part in it. Maybe because they are too afraid to show that they don't really know how to. So what if in the beginning the other says it's alright? That they'd learn along the way. How come sometimes the partner still seems to hold back? It becomes too awkward.

Remember the prom? I enjoyed the prom for most of the time because I was dancing with guys who were not always good but they knew how to converse while dancing and they knew that it wasn't always about their performance but how we both could enjoy the experience.
