"They [the children of Lir, whose evil stepmother transformed them into swans for 900 years] eventually completed their time on the Sea of Moyle, and were then forced to continue their exile on the remote Western Sea. While there, the Children of Lir met Ebric, who lived on a small parcel of land by the shore. Ebric provided them some human companionship for a brief time, as he delighted in their beautiful songs. Then suddenly, the winds rose up and carried them further out to sea. Ebric never saw the swans again, but he shared their story with his people. It is through Ebric that the Irish people came to know of the Children of Lir."
