Hey! All of the freshmen got the results for their Summer Housing Lottery today! Well, after learning that I was going to be in H304, I tried to find more information on it, but didn't have any luck. All I gathered was that I'm in 3rd West (right?). Can anyone tell me anything more about this room/hall...is it a double, what kind of atmosphere does the hall have, is it a cat floor? Thanks for all your input, a very confused freshman
Hey :-) I'm a prefrosh and I'm set on living at East Campus. Can I just put it as my first choice on the housing lottery and not give them any more choices? There is no other place I'd want to live. I'm from Lexington, Mass, by the way... play tennis, russian guitar... going to major in biology next year at MIT. Also, I was wondering what you could tell me about your halls at East Campus. I didn't get to visit all of them during the prefrosh weekend. What is each floor like?
this is probably the wrong place to ask this, but i'm a stupid freshman. anyway, i just discovered (just as in, five minutes ago) that i have a bit of an ant problem in my room. all of my food is locked up in sealed containers.. except i have a kitten, so his food is always out (this is where they were congregated). i'm a bit hesitant to go buy ant poison traps because kittens like to eat things. engineers fix problems.. please please please any suggestions?
It is with much sadness that i relate this note to you all but i have just been informed that James Roberts (BiG Jimmy) passed away last night at his Brockton home.
Jimmy was well known and loved by many throughout the MIT campus. From 1996 thru 2001 Big Jimmy and I had the pleasure of sharing the Night Watch duties of Senior House/East Campus. He was a trusted friend and I will miss him deeply.
At this time i have no other info to pass along regarding any arrangements made for funereal services and/or calling hours, i will pass those on directly if/when i receive them.

:(:(:(
Jimmy let me use his truck when I moved out of EC. He showed up on a Saturday morning just to help me move. I'm sad I can't be at the funeral.
A mail sent at 9:35 am to hall chairs said that the fire inspectors were probably coming today.
And a few minutes ago I saw some unfamiliar-looking official-type people walking in. So it's probably them.
If you don't want to live on the street - and in this weather, living on the street would really suck - close your fucking doors. And get your shoes out of the hallway. They're not going to be lenient, from what I've heard, so don't fuck up.
Specifically, there are two eating places in the Stata Center:
- the Forbes Family Cafe, which is currently open 7:30 am to 5 pm, planned to expand to 7:30 am to 10 pm on August 30. - in late August, the R&D Pub is scheduled to open; it'll be open 4pm to 10pm Monday through Friday.
Pritchett, according to the article, will remain open, presumably on last year's hours of 4-9 Sunday-Thursday.
In summary... there will be more food on the east side of campus than there used to be. This is a Good Thing.
