I'm new, and I need help!

Alrighty, so, this is me.



hi.
I have natural medium brown hair and have been eager to dye it a serious red for a long, long time. My questions are thus:

What shade of red won't completely look horrifying with my skin tone and/or purple glasses?



red red? naturalish red? orangey red?
I'm kind of leaning towards the orangey red.

And, given that I'm broke and hellbent on doing this myself, what sort of dye (and lightener?) should I use? I tried SFX cherry bomb once and it came out super pink, which is definitely not what I'm going for.
