Spoilers: Allusions to the second series finale, "The Girl in the Fireplace", "School Reunion", the Time War, and "The Christmas Invasion".
Notes: I'm very new to Doctor Who, and I've only seen the first new series, plus about half of the second. This is my first fic for it, and I can only hope it's any good! It sort of takes off from that line of the Doctor's - "No second chances; I'm that sort of a man."
Picks up around "The Girl in the Fireplace", but fuss with the names a bit and it could be taken from any of the early Ten episodes. ♥
There are too many voices. In his nightmares he can hear them screaming: The Time Lords, Madame de Pompadour, Sarah Jane and Rose. The ones he's killed, the ones he let die, the ones he left behind. The ones he couldn't save.
He lets them go, waking. Waking, he doesn't have to think of them. Doesn't have to, but he does.
He remembers that there are those who tried to harm them. He remembers countless instances: the gun to the head, the laser trained on the heart. He doesn't want to let it happen again.
No second chances.
Not for them. Not for him.
