Help Santa get in, and help me out *

Did your family's chimney come down in the September earthquake? Does you house lack a fireplace? How will Santa get in to visit you?

NEVER FEAR! Santa has asked me to help out in his busiest season and distribute these keys to Christchurch homes (and any one else who needs one). With a magical Santa key you can still have presents delivered to your tree on Christmas morning.

Just hang this special key outside your door and Santa will use it to get into the house. Because it's magic, only he can use it and if anyone else tries, it won't fit the locks.

Each key is hand crafted and unique and is sent with a personalised letter from Santa addressed to the child/children of the house explaining what the key is and how to use it. I can make them to order to suit any budget from $1 to $20, or even as high as $200 if you really want (that would be awesome, yes please).

The letter in the photo is an example of a letter to someone who lost their chimney in the quake, but every letter will be individually written (by Santa) to suit the circumstances of each household eg. living in an apartment without a chimney or the fireplace is boarded up, it might be a GPS key to tell Santa where you've gone on holiday or where you're living now, or to let him in because your house only ever had electrical heating.

A $3 key and a $15 deluxe key

For an extra $3-5 keys can be packaged in a special gift box. I can even hand deliver them (in Chch) for a small fee too.

*My regular (casual) job at Canterbury Uni has finished up for the year, so I'm left quite a bit short each week until I can find more work. If you know of any part time/casual work in Chch for someone with pink hair, I'm keen to hear about it too.

A new store for the ladies

I have an online store selling reusable menstrual products, and I thought at least a few women here might be interested.

I specialise in menstrual cups (sometimes known by the brand name mooncup) and washable cloth pads at the moment, but may branch into other products, such as sponges and cloth tampons, at a later date.

I'm still getting up and running, so don't have every brand in stock just yet (international post is sooooo sloooooow), but I will be stocking these cup brands: Diva, femmecup, fleurcup, iriscup, lunette, ladycup, mooncup, Keeper moon cup, meluna, miacup, shecup, and Yuukicup (naturecup too when they are available). Some are here already, others are in transit.

I will also have as broad a range of locally made and imported cloth pads as I can, including some I make myself.

The website is www.environmenstruals.co.nz. (the pad related parts of the site are still under construction, as are a few of the more finicky details throughout).

If you're ever up in Chch I can offer personal consultation with samples and all to help you pick the right products for you, and can even save you postage and let you pay in cash :-) For everyone else, I'm very happy to chat ponline or on the phone, and can be very flexible on payment methods for those without credit cards or online banking. I will also be heading down to Dn for the Women's expo in October - my facebook fan page will have a coupon for discounted entry, closer to the time.

I hope to be saving you all hundreds of dollars each very soon.

*I'm also keen to hear from anyone who makes pads and pouches who may want me to stock their wares.

Seitan

Hi everyone --

Do you know if there is a place to buy seitan here in Dunedin? I know that "gluten-free" seems to be really big around here (why is that, by the way?), so maybe no one would even buy seitan, but it would be so great to find some if possible.

Thank you!

free food for superhero comic readers

Hi

I am a Masters student at the University of Canterbury, working on a thesis on comic book readers, superheroes and masculinities. I’m looking for people who read superhero comics who would be willing to take part in a group interview about what they read, and what they do/don’t enjoy about superhero comics.

I’m coming down to Dunedin this coming weekend, and am planning to run the group in the afternoon on Saturday 12th September. There will be yummy nibbles provided for anyone who wants to take part (and I can cater to any weird allergies and dietary needs if I know about them in advance).

I would really appreciate it if you could pass on my information to anyone else who you think may be interested in taking part in this focus group.

My website, www.superhero.geek.nz, has more details about my research, including contact details for my supervisors and myself.

Thanks

New Exhibition of Surreal Collage Art at Modaks

'Seven Days' series by Peter Lewis
Modaks Espresso, 337-339 George Street. Open 8am-6pm daily.

Dunedin artist Peter Lewis commissioned Aaron Manuel of Visual Intelligence tattoo studio to airbrush a series of seven canvases based on sunrise photos. Each canvas was then decorated with several 'concentric circle' designs representing the suns and moons of alien worlds - since each of his collages is a little self-contained world this seemed like an excellent way, both stylistically and literally, to have each collage be a different dawn on a different planet.

Free Tapes - Any Takers?

I'm clearing out some old tapes I don't want anymore and thought I'd offer them here before dumping them at the Salvation Army store.
I have about 60 tapes, all but a few are ones I recorded myself ie. could be re-used as blanks. They're a mixture of NZ music, 80s / 90s indie and alternative, some Gothic stuff, with a few electronic, industrial and metal as well.
I have them here with me at work in Stafford St, post a comment if you want to come and pick through them. I'll be taking whatever's left to the Sallies this Saturday morning.
