we meet for the first time in a gathering of friends and you don't have a ride home so you keep sighing and saying ubers are so expensive nowadays so I ask you where you live and apparently it's not too far from the direction I'm already going in so I offer you a ride but it's totally cool if you refuse because you don't know me super well after all I'll even help you pay for the uber if you want but you insist my car is fine so we say bye to our friends in common and on the way there you sigh again and say you were going to turn on your gps but your phone's battery ran out so I tell you my bag has a power bank and a usb cable that you can use as long as you give it back once we arrive and when we're getting kind of close to my house I'm going in a direction you're not used to so you say "wait, where are we going?" and I go "isn't it here?" and you notice yes it is through here, you just have never taken this avenue from this entrance. and eventually we get to your house and you try to get out through the child lock door and you pull on it a few times before I can tell you I forgot to warn you that's the door my brother generally sits at and that you can leave through the other one and you give me the power bank back and go home. and you never talk to me again

i’m not gonna say outright “making fun of typos is ableist” but as a disabled person with shaky hands and brain fog that often causes various typos, hitting send too early on messages, missing the spacebar, incorrect homonyms, etc it is a little frustrating when people stop read what you’re saying to instead do 5 individual unfunny comedy bits about whatever it was that i accidentally said. maybe we don’t have to riff on that every time. maybe if i delete or edit a message you can respond to the point i am actually trying to get across instead of making fun of me for mistakes caused by my disabilities. maybe if i don’t see the mistake and i leave it there you can still focus on what i’m saying. i guess i am saying that making fun of typos is ableist.

I will, making fun of typos is ableist. I've been typing at ~120 wpm for nearly two decades, most people who see me use a computer comment about how fast I do things. I will always make a lot of typos because I am disabled. I don't think it's funny when people joke about it.

my first thought is always the wonderful and clever people I've known with dyslexia. my typos are the result of a lack of physical coordination, theirs are not. do you know how infuriating it is to have an adult ask you for help fixing spelling mistakes and see the anxiety and shame they feel in that moment?

they're anticipating all your little jokes. stop it. it's not funny. you know what they meant to say.
