If this bill passes the senate then women of Arizona would be forced to provide documentation that birth control is for medical purposes only. The "company" would not be required to cover birth control if it was for prevention of conception. Additionally this bill would give companies the right to fire women if they discovered that she was using a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy

We should never forget some of the things that they were fighting for - like the right to birth control. And we should be VERY WORRIED that some of these rights are being taken away from us TODAY. When politicians are once more questioning women being in the military (because it might distract the men, because they'll be more concerned about protecting the "girls"), when legislators are removing coverage for birth control from our insurance plans - it might very well be the right to vote that we will lose next unless we USE IT and VOTE!

I am shocked and horrified. I am now starting to read that the assailant who shot Rep. Gifford has been identified as a far left liberal because of his list of fave books on MySpace. Erm--Let us look:
There is not any real indication Loughner was a far-left wing nutcase. The favorite books he put up on his MySpace were: "Animal Farm," which is a blatant criticism of communism , "Brave New World," which is a blatant criticism of any kind of totalitarianism , "The Wizard of OZ," "Aesop's Fables," "The Odyssey," "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," "Fahrenheit 451, which is again a rant against totalitarianism" "Peter Pan," "To Kill A Mockingbird," "We The Living, a book by Ayn Rand which is virulently anti-communist " "Phantom Toll Booth," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "Pulp," "Through The Looking Glass," "The Communist Manifesto,which is an essay on pure Communism which has never been practiced in any country except Israel's kibutzs " "Siddhartha," "The Old Man and the Sea," "Gulliver's Travels," "Mein Kampf, which is Nazi proganda " "The Republic" and "Meno." I'd say the odds are that what he as reading was more anti-far left wing than pro.

I have been working so hard and for so many hours every week that I have barely had time to read many of the delightful stories over at hlh_shortcuts. The several I have read have been delightful. I recommend highly taking a visit if you love "Highlander." And, yes, my husband is still unemployed and it is certainly not for his lack of applying for jobs, any job, anywhere. I cannot tell you how many times he has not been even considered because he is overly educated and overly qualified. Nor can I tell you how many times the fact that he is in his late 50's have made employers not even consider him. Please folks, do not think or believe that the unemployed are lazy, not looking, or using unemployment to slack off and have fun. Many of them are just like Roy. They've worked hard all their lives, lost their jobs because of outsourcing to India or China, and are reeling in desperation.

Help me find novel
In the recent past, I read a novel in which that main character discovers that his fiance is the oldest daughter of (one of?) the wealthiest families on earth. When he discovers that he expected to take over the family empire someday if he marries her, he escapes with the help of her younger sister. He really has nowhere to run where he can't be found so he joins a starship that is heading out without expectation of any quick return. Herb is a character in the book who is based on the SF writer John Varley. Does anyone on my f-list know author and/or title of this book?
ETA: The book is called "Variable Star." It is based on notes for a novel written by Bob Heinlein and finished by Spider Robinson. My husband, Roy, just pulled it down off our bookshelves for me. YAY! A friend on Facebook helped me find it. It is a good book.
