Journal Rules/Journal Culture
Apr. 9th, 2015 11:51 pmJournal Rules
1. Unless otherwise specified, what's said in this journal generally stays in this journal and its LJ mirror (or on personal IM)
2. Commenting is unnecessary unless we request comments (and even then we're probably not going to hold it against you if you don't comment, we might whine childishly though) -- mostly because we don't think we should require comments if we don't comment all the time... see commenting culture subsection.
3. If posts are marked with a thread-necro tag you can comment on it whenever even if it's from years ago (Apollo's revamping the tags... when this one is connected it will also be sidebarred in the Important Links custom text box.)
4a. Generally speaking, we don't do friend removals very often. If we do, it happens about once a year, Professional and writing journals are generally given friend-necro unless you move to a new journal. And usually we only remove people if their journal's been
(a) dead forever and we know that it's because they left the site or something and we've never seen hide nor hair of them around site
(b) moved journals
(c) deleted or
(d) we feel ridiculously uncomfortable on your list -- and this last one, we'll probably tell you ahead of time because maybe it's easily resolvable, like we're on a filter that makes us uncomfortable and we didn't realize it and also because we're nice like that.
4b. We ask that if you are removing us OR refraining from adding us to please let us know. You don't have to tell us why, we just would prefer to be notified
5. We have a 3-strikes-you're-out policy in regards to drama. If you violate Rule #1, refuse to be civil if someone you dislike is in the comments, disrespect my friends in this journal, or otherwise make an ass of yourself, you will get a strike. If you garner 3 strikes, you will be permabanned, unless you can prove yourself to be someone who can leave things be now.
If you really can't stand someone on my flist, go install greasemonkey and a killfile script. Thank you.
Commenting Culture
We are OK with any of the below:
1. Single or two word comments, e.g. , woo!, yay, yes, no, please, thanks, absolutely, agreed, seconded, so much, no way, etc.
2. "+1" or Facebook style "like".
3. Otherwise brief comments, e.g. single sentences.
4. A comment that is a punctuation mark(s) to let me know you read, e.g. a period, an asterisk.
5. A comment that is a punctuation mark(s) to express your response, e.g. an exclamation mark or question mark.
6. A comment that is an emoticon(s) to express your response, e.g. \o/, <3, :), :(, :-D, :-P, etc.
7. Long, wordy comments. Rambling is totally okay.
8. Comments and links on related topics.
9. Comments on single links, entities, paragraphs, topics, or words in the entry. I throw out a lot of things each entry, and I don't expect anyone to have to come up with a coherent comment on each and every one of them to comment.
10. Sequential commentary. It's totally okay to comment about one thing as you read it, then another thing in a separate comment, then a third thing after you've chewed on it for a while and feel ready to talk about it.
11. Incoherent comments. It’s all good. I would rather have you here and showing interest,, even if it's just a *flail*, than for you to stay silent because you are afraid or unable to get the perfect comment out.
12. Talking amongst yourselves in the comments is fine. I like creating a place where people get to interact!
13. Even GIF/image-emote comments are fine HOWEVER, if you're doing a GIF/image commentary please try to describe it as well since some of our friends use screenreaders
We are also ok with:
Comments on older entries, access-locked or public.
Comments from people who are not subscribed to us.
Comments from people who we’ve never met.
Comments from people who haven’t talked to us in awhile.
Comments from people who’ve never talked to us.
We like knowing how you found us, if you're new.
NB: Posts marked with "post type: thread-necro" and "post type: audience participation" are usually able to be commented on retroactively no matter how old they are (unless the content itself says they're time-sensitive).
Commenting Replies
1. We try to reply in a timely manner, but we're often very low-spoon when it comes to commenting, so sometimes we might comment in what looks like binges
2. So if you REALLY want a response please SAY SOMETHING up-front
Linking/Quoting Policy
Public - probably fair game for linking
Private - please ask first
Do not archive our works without our permission
If something inspires you, let us know!
Remix Statement
Remix statement:
Generally I'm okay with transformative work, including translations. Generally speaking my policy is fairly close to The Creative Commons BY-NC-SA, but I'd prefer you ask first. There may be exceptions.
Remixing fanfiction:
SOME of the stories I write are headmates' headcanon, in which case, the rules for remixing go a little different:
(1) I'd rather you talk to me before you remix the work itself into a new fanfic. I might have a friend already doing that for me or I might not want the text to be altered at all...
(2) Podfics and translations for these are FINE, but use the translation/remix link so I can see them!
(3) Fanmixes, Fanart, and fic banners/icon sets inspired by the work are also fine with a the translation/remix link (I'll love you even more, if you use alt text or an image description for the graphics because a lot of the people who I share stuff with are using screenreaders!)
(4) Exception to the rule: My Ace Attorney OCs are free-range for PWKM works and anyone I know from the Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney fandom.
Remixing fanmixes:
Check the tags on fanmixes. If it has a freeform tag that says "remixable", you may create a fanfiction or fanart based off of it. Some of my fanmixes are already remixes for other people's works or my own.
