power's back on!

ILAWWWWWW!!!

(the cry of ecstasy resounds through the plain)

just got our electricity back. it had been 25 hours of mosquitos and cold and netlessness. was fun, though. got to catch up on my reading :D jerzy kosinski, my friends, is the shit. have also put together a few things that would possibly help me FINALLY update the philippine folklore site. possibly.

i considered it a much-needed 24-hour vacation. frankly this is all i do when i go running off into the unknown: lie around until the storm passes. yesterday we fried everything in our refrigerator (which was, thankfully, not a lot), because we didn't know how long the power would be out and we had to cook the food before it went bad. the rest of the neighborhood did the same, so it smelled like a veritable fiesta :D

here in bulacan we suffered very minimal damages. apparently our wifi antenna is still intact, despite the wind that damaged some of our power and phone cables. the people in the city and other central luzon provinces are not so lucky.

AM radio is the lifesaver in these days. last count:

4 dead in general trias cavite, 40+ missing presumed dead
19 dead in quezon
at least 1 dead because of 18 reported billboard accidents in manila
albay declared in a state of calamity because of flash floods. evacuation underway.
unknown number stranded

348 smart cell sites down
400 globe cell sites down
1 napocor tower down
unknown number of power lines need repair

a mcdonald's signboard gets turned upside down... into a wendy's signboard

president has ordered 80% restoration of all power lines in luzon. meralco estimates it can only do 60% within 24 hours.

yes, this sort of performance is exactly what this power monopoly is overcharging us for.

on the up side, it came back a LOT earlier than i expected it to. i was expecting around 48 unlit hours, at least. i suppose i should thank the nearby mall for making us a priority sector...

now this must be said: thanks to everyone who answered my texts. you guys saved my sanity. most of all, THANKS TO ALEX! FROM PANGASINAN! WHO WANTED TO BE MY TXTM8! even if i don't have the first friggin' idea who he is and how he got my number.

and omg i go shower now. PLUMBING YEY.
