We didn't get a lot of snow here yesterday but this morning I woke up to a white view. It melted quickly but the cold remains and it's impossible to even step out of the house now that it's dark. Hopefully it'll be better in the morning when I have to go to work! A friend posted a video on youtube that shows just how bad the weather was yesterday in my island... Watch it!
The weather report is saying that this weekend we are expecting a rapid drop in temperature and even snow around Athens. On Saturday there is a chance that we'll get snow in Cyclades Islands (in the middle of the Aegean, where I currently am). I am not really believing it, but if it does happen it'll be the first sign that winter is really here...
It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

Just saw Taken , with Liam Neeson. I have to admit that I enjoyed it immensely. I didn't even eat my favourite ice-cream because I was too engrossed in the film!!!
I got the meme from darya01 (Have to say I asked for it though - should have known better!) If you want it, all you have to do is say “SHOWTIME!” and I will give you ten actors and ten actresses. Then post in your Livejournal with your favorite films of theirs.

Life is not fair but I guess you all know that. I was at a funeral today. The brother of a friend died suddenly on Monday. A neighbor discovered his body the next morning. He was 47 years old, working in a hospital in Athens. A nice man, shy, kind of closed to himself he lived alone and died alone. His sister lives with her daughter near my house (I had her girl as a student for two years) and made the arrangements for him to be buried here in the village where he grew up. She feels so alone now... her husband is never home and her mother has Altzheimer. God, sometimes I feel so frustrated about how life seems to be so unfair to some people. It's just a sad day...
August here in Greece is the definitive summer month. Tourists are flocking the islands and locals take their vacation time and go their villages, which could either mean mountain or sea. I'm living in an island anyway, so it makes little difference to me. But my relatives are coming, my sister on Wednesday and my darling brother George on Saturday with their famlies. It means that for a few weeks I'll have company and fun but it also means that I'll feel lonelier come September. But that's life I guess. Full of ups and downs.
Today was hot. Really, really hot with a temperature near 40Celcius. Too hot to sleep, to eat, to read, to drive to the beach (it's about a 30 minutes drive from my village)... so, I just hung around doing nothing. I watched the F1 race, called some friends and in late afternoon, which is about 6 o'clock here, I went to Chora and had a nice, cold freddo. I came home about an hour ago, at 10 something, and, fortunately, the weather is cooler now. There is a nice breeze coming in from the balcony and I have high hopes of sleeping tonight.
