Just got back from the ER...

I will be OK, but I am in a lot of pain, so I am trying to take my mind off it by posting.

I was cooking supper when my shirt caught fire! The fire went up my right side, my armpit and partway up underneath my arm. I was able to get the fire mostly out by squirting myself with the sink sprayer, and thank the Lord, Jim got home from work right then, and rushed me to the hospital.

They gave me an IV morphine drip, and prescribed some pain meds and  once the morphine started working, they slathered some cream on it and then wrapped up my side and arm like a nummy and sent me home with my nurse husband. He's taking tomorrow off to stay home with me.

Lessons learned:  don't wear loose shirts with polyester content while cooking and don't  get burned in the armpit.

I hope I can sleep tomnight.

Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, half a week late.

I guess you all must have thought that after all my posts, I must have fallen off the face of the earth on Good Friday. Well, not quite. But my computer that I thought was all fixed with a new surge protector, apparently was not, and it had to be taken to Best Buy for repair. I soon discovered that I could not even upload my pictures on my tablet. Apparently the app I have does not let me onto my profile, much less my scrapbook!

Today is my day for working at the church, so I am using my lunch hour to post from the church computer (with permission). Well, not quite my lunch hour now. I had to stop and finish my work; but it's time to go, so now I can finally post.

I called this stone "A Light in the Darkness":

Lent post, Good Friday

It's Good Friday, and this stone was inspired by the old hymn:

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
And I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown

24 years ago today...

Today is the annual ceremony held each year at the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and Museum to memorialize the victims of the attack. It happened 24 years ago today at 9:02AM.

The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist truck bombing on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building[1] in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States on April 19, 1995. Perpetrated by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, the bombing happened at 9:02 am and killed at least 168 people,[2] injured more than 680 others, and destroyed one-third of the building.[3] The blast destroyed or damaged 324 other buildings within a 16-block radius, shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings, and destroyed or burned 86 cars,[4][5] causing an estimated $652 million worth of damage.[6] Extensive rescue efforts were undertaken by local, state, federal, and worldwide agencies in the wake of the bombing, and substantial donations were received from across the country. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) activated 11 of its Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces, consisting of 665 rescue workers who assisted in rescue and recovery operations.[7][8] Until the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Oklahoma City bombing was the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of the United States, and remains the deadliest incident of domestic terrorism in the country's history. (Wikipedia)

Among the victims were 19 young children, who were at the daycare center provided by the building for the employees.

I am watching the annual broadcast of the memorial now. And I can't help but fear that the hate that caused this seems worse than ever.

Lent, Maundy Thursday

Unfortunately, our church did not have a Maundy Thursday service. I call this stone "The Last Supper".

Lent stone 4-18-19

Holy Week
Thursday

Loving Provider,
you gather me in this upper room with your son,
to be fed by your love.
At that supper, Jesus told us to "love one another"
and I know that is the heart of his gift,
his sacrifice for me.
I ask that I might find the source of my own heart,
the meaning for my own life,
in that Eucharist.
Guide me to the fullness of your love and life.

Lent, Wednesday before Easter

I call this one "Crown him with many crowns..."

Lent stone 4-17-19

Holy Week
Wednesday

My savior,
do you invite me to share
in the glory of the resurrection?
Please stay with me
as I struggle to see
how accepting the crosses of my life
will free me from the power
of the one who wants only
to destroy my love and trust in you.
Help me to be humble and accepting
like your son, Jesus.
I want to turn to you
with the same trust he had in your love.
Save me, Lord. Only you can save me.

(no subject)

We had a lovely Palm Sunday service today. I'm glad I went, as I have to work on Easter. There were a lot of adorable children waving palm branches during the Introit, and they also helped the choir sing the "Hosanna" part of today's anthem.

The pastor's sermon was thoughtful, and I loved the ending hymn, one of my favorite hymns of the season, "Hymn of Promise".

My stone, appropriately, is "Hosanna!"

Lent, day 37

The cross and flame represents Christ and the Holy Spirit. It is also the official symbol of my denomination, the United Methodist Church.

The Fifth Week of Lent
Saturday

Loving God,
Your eternal watchfulness keeps me safe from harm.
I am filled with a great happiness
when I feel your endless love for me.
Thank you for your care for me, one of your children.
I ask you to protect from harm
those who will soon be your children,
joined in the joy of your church.
Please continue to pour out your blessings
on all of us who have been given
the lifegiving waters of baptism.
