A sentient moss powered spaceship is not something I expected to work so well, but now I'm intrigued. Does the cliffhanger feel satisfying enough on its own, or does it strongly depend on a sequel?

This is a similarly-sized sequel to Seth Haddon’s cyberpunk novella “Volatile Memory,” which I really enjoyed and reviewed last year. At the time, I did wish for more adventures with these characters, and apparently all my devices were listening to me. The first book tells the story of Wylla and Sable’s rather unconventional relationship. Notably, Sable has been murdered, but her consciousness survives in a prototype mask that Wylla finds on her dead body. Together they search for the killer, and are pursued by VisorForge, the corporation responsible for the mask tech. Along the way, the two of them fall in love. Ultimately, Wylla deletes all records of herself existing and is free to live completely off the grid. Several years later, Wylla wants out of the fight, but Sable still wants her revenge. Their actions in trying to expose VisorForge have attracted the attention of the Edenic Order, a group of radical eco warriors. They promise a way to take the corporations down for good, but can they themselves be trusted? Tensions rise between the couple as they are pulled in different directions, both metaphorically and literally. Things are still told in second-person perspective, with Sable narrating to Wylla, but you get used it to very quickly. The story does a lot of interesting things with gender and bodily autonomy, particularly with regards to Sable and Wylla’s experiences of their shared body. The scale of this book is significantly bigger than the first, upping the stakes and the action, and it proves to be a very satisfying end to their story. Very enjoyable! I’m just glad that Amazon only had the stones to ruin the first two books’ Kindle covers with screenshots from this joke of an “adaptation’s” advertising. I genuinely don’t know how this was made. Lord of the Rings nerds don’t know how good they have it with Rings of Power.

Brandon Sanderson was different than Jordan for sure, but he did well in my opinion - especially considering how different his style is from WoT. I think Jordan lost his way with the last few books he wrote which is why books like Crossroads are such a slog. Sanderson got the series moving again and I enjoyed his books more than the last few from Jordan. Hope is just around the corner... Just one reader's thoughts...

In the middle of Crossroads of Twilight... I am struggling with Perrin's POV. I'll try to read, but then a few paragraphs or a page later, I put it down. I've heard good things about Knife of Dreams, but I am not looking forward to Brandon Sanderson, and I'm feeling very discouraged.

Reaching the funding goal that quickly really shows there is still plenty of enthusiasm for The Wheel of Time, and the Padan Fain miniature looks like a great choice for an early reveal.

You made it much farther than me. The TV show is truly a different story meant for a different audience. I know and like the books too much to be able to enjoy the TV series version. I had hoped that a series, unlike films, would allow keeping much closer to the source material. However, I get that many screen adaptations of books offer too tempting an opportunity for folks to add their own creative interpretations, etc. While I was disappointed that I didn't get the TV series I wished for, I do hope for the show's continued success.

Writer sounds like a really useful tool for organizing scenes, characters, and POVs, especially for longer projects. I'll definitely check it out.

Just finished The 100 Season 2. Still one of my favorite seasons of sci-fi television. The Mount Weather storyline kept building the tension right up to the finale, and I liked that there weren't any easy moral choices for the characters. I'd give it a solid 9.5/10.

Yes but to achieve this (barring a massive tech jump) requires relentless growth which is costing far far in excess of the profits being returned and this does not even factor in the insane environmental damage that is ongoing, and if you think datacentres in space is the answer then I have a bridge to sell you.. At some point this will break. Never mind the ethical questions of scraping the entire internet, stealing everything to train your AI and then turning around and selling it back to the people you have stolen it from. What happens when you put everyone that has trained your AI out of business and then it has nothing new to work from. I wish all those putting poison pills in their work all the best.

Given the speed of improvement the outputs are already unbelievable - the trajectory isn't linear. As soon as the context element / memory is perfected AI will be able to maintain character looks and scenery in 3D across storylines (can do this now but only with human help in prompting). AI film studios are already popping up. Projects like WOT seem perfect.
