Resources

Links I'm currently examining, relevant to the Dragoncycle storyline:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histo… for a general feel of what their technological status is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herba… much of Airen's background lies here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayurv… this, plus a semblance of what remains from a lost technological era, is a good basis of their medical philosophy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_C… example medical text
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_B… example medical/scholarly text
http://www.ampulove.com/amputee/pr… also important for re: Dragoncycle II. I think an "Angelesy leg" approximation will be what will serve as Robinton's leg at the end of that story. 1855-era prosthetics should be plausible with their technological levels and knowledge of medicine.

And now I can finally close all of those tabs in Firefox.

In an alternate universe...

Fine. There are no chocobos. I think I can live with that, IF you grant me riding lizards. Like... raptors with saddles! At least in the desert part! Come on!

Hypello's, while not very important in DC I, will need a new name for their race. As will ze shoupuff.

Can we still keep a Cid somewhere in here? Running gag? It doesn't have to stay as Cirru's Cid, but I want a Cid!

And another note is that changing aeons to gods will change the way the aeon-lings, now to be refered to as godlings look. Parae will no longer have the curling horns that resemble Ifrit... unless you want the totems to take on a more abstract look. Still, the godlings will look distinctly more human now. As for their appearences, they would all look like their 'released but resealed' forms. I'm still rather fond of a 4 armed godling though.

For more original universe reasons, do we want to have more of the cat-human hybrids, similar to Rehnari, or is Rehnari considered taboo? This also makes it easier to accept the fact that the land over the sea, Nanukei's home, has Gods in their more 'pure' form, rather than totemized and golem created ones. Nemru would have killed the Gods on her contenent (much more acceptable that she killed mortals with god powers, than killing the actual representations of gods) and then stepped over to the other to examine the god golem and screw with the dragons.

Nanukei sounds like he would now be a totemized spirit, able to roam free because his totem has not been invoked... or something. I dunno... a totemized spirit that pulled himself together with a golem body? (Which would leave a weak point! I'm going to climb all over Nanu, look for his weak point, and stab him right ... oh wait... that's another game).

Webcomic Donations

I know that actually posting this story as an online fiction or illustrated fiction (let alone a webcomic) is a long ways off.

However, I saw something today that made me wish to share a few thoughts.

Nearly every online webcomic these days has a "Donate!" button. Some of them offer large pictures (wallpapers or scanty pinups) as donation-incentives. Irregular Webcomic is a wickedly-awesome webcomic that I enjoy, involving geeky storylines involving everything from Star Wars, to Indiana Jones, to D&D, to the Mythbusters, to the Crocodile Hunter. The author, too, asks his readers to donate. But it works a little differently than most places.

Donations are sent to charities. By default, the money is donated to the Jane Goodall Institute, unless the reader choses a different charity he or she wishes to give money to.

I think this is a brilliant idea, personally. Dragoncycle won't generate nearly that much traffic, and even if it gets as popular as Irregular Webcomic, I doubt as many people will be flooding our servers as those visiting Penny Arcade or PvP. If David can afford to pay for the webhosting costs with a good job, then I at least can pay for webhosting costs when I am employed.

"But won't providing the links to these charities put people off? Wouldn't the people following these links donate anyway?" You'd be surprised. Many people who are thinking of sparing their cash to some lowly webcomic author, upon clicking the link, might be moved and inspired enough to donate to his favorite charity - Jane Goodall Institute - even without knowing much about it. Other people will feel a spark of inspiration, like me, and invest their money into their own favorite charity.

Here's a list of charities that I would like to be linked on our donation page:

- The Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault
- Iowa Legal Aid
- Children's Cancer Research Fund
- Children's Leukemia & Cancer Research Foundation
- Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Does anyone else have some links that they'd like to share?

Webspace Update

The server for www.rose-orb.com will be flaky over the next few days, Sauron wants you all to know.

In addition, the DC website might have a domain change from www.rose-orb.com to www.dragoncycle.com. I'll change all of my links accordingly when that time comes.

Just in case anyone was interested. I do plan on starting this ASAP.

Drawing and updating

Yo, we need to get our pencils out and draw on everything! Perhaps we could divide the work (since Sauron is swamped and PD... you seem distracted). What if someone draws out the backgrounds so Panther doesn't have to draw them out. All you'll have to do is paste your art on top of it. (You'll need to tell us a list of 'where' the characters are at)

Or if that doesn't work, we'll just dump all the art on Panther, but do 'random and pointless' comics/art to bide the time until she finishes. I can donate much random dragon cycle art (either of the characters or of us creators screaming like monkeys about something.) LET THERE BE UPDATES!.... and MANGOS!

And on a random note, Hey Sauron, what should the Ifrit's image size be for a web bar? Cause the Valfor is mostly vertical... should I design the ifrit to fit in a certain area?
