Hi! I am a fat 40-something white
introvert in NC. I worked in the NCSU Libraries for 13 years, then
was an insurance agent working with Aflac (quack!) for about 9 months, and
currently work as a substitute teacher in Roxboro & a
repairer/maintainer of sewing machines out of my home.

Basically, if it's got cosplay, fantasy, horror (esp. body horror and
zombies), science (or SCIENCE!) & sci-fi, steampunk, or superheroes (or
supervillains), I'll probably love it.
I also try to keep up with actual science and technology, especially body modification and transhumanism.
I also blog about libraries and library- & librarian-related things
(including books), in part because I'd worked in a library for thirteen
years, and about education (especially education in NC and education in
America) due to my work in academic libraries and as a substitute
teacher. And about language and linguistics, as those fascinate me.
Also about jobs and job hunting, since I've been unemployed or
underemployed for an uncomfortably long time, and we could all use a
little help there.
I also enjoy cooking (and food), which is a type of science. Here are some recipes I've collected.
This being the internet, I also reblog posts with cute animals. I'm
especially fond of bats. And squid, cuttlefish, and other cephalopods.
While I'm listing animals, I may as well provide a link to my cat
posts. It is the internet, so there are a lot of them.
I'm a big fan of/believer in people being themselves, and of consenting
adults being able to do whatever they want however they want with
whoever they want, no matter what others think. (I.e., body positivity,
sex positivity). I try to keep this blog SFW -- the only porn I'll be
posting here are food porn and technology porn -- but I do sometimes
talk about sex (esp. sex education) and burlesque (there are some great
burly troupes in the Triangle & Triad area).
I struggle with mild depression and anxiety issues, so sometimes my blog
may get a bit maudlin. But I also try to give advice on dealing with
those, too.

Did you read the book dude? If I was a horrific looking fish man who wanted the not be judged by my appearance and be treated like a normal guy I wouldn’t willingly compare myself to the evil lovecraftian deity who’s spawn are known for forcefully mating with human woman.
I get the idea of like reclaiming a slur or a negative image but the entirely normal looking guy rather than the people who are actually mutated make that decision is incredibly suspect.
Also they seem to be eating a guy, kinda undercuts the idea of “ we’re not monsters”
To be fair the person they're eating did deserve it
She was abducting Atlanteans to horrifically experiment on them basically just because it was easy to get away with because the surface world just sees them as fish monsters as opposed to how if you're doing human experimentation the law and the media will at least pretend to give a shit
But yeah, naming your new city that's totally gonna be a Utopia and not at all an insane supervillain dictatorship after the evil fish god from Horrible Phobia's Lovecraft's books is not winning my confidence here Orm XD
To be fair, Dagon (or Dagan) is also the name of a god worshiped in ancient Syria, a god of prosperity & rulership. Some early medieval scholar noticed that his name sounded similar to the Hebrew word for “fish” (דָג dag or דָגָה daga) which is how he became known as an aquatic deity, and is likely what lead Howie Lovecraft to use the name for his fish-frog-people.
For the @dashcon-two Crow Exchange, I made custom DashCon/Magic the Gathering trading cards. They were a huge hit! Unfortunately, it was my first convention I've ever gone to and I accidentally handed them out wayyyy too fast and had people tracking me down all day and had to send them away empty handed.
So to make up for it I've decided to publish the files for them here! Feel free to print them out and stick them on your own cards. If you end up playing any games with them I'd love to see.
(Also included is the Tumblr University card that no one got because I accidentally left them behind in the U.S. lol)
I mean, as a movie that looks to be a metaphor for Covid and the resulting lockdowns, they're at least treating it more seriously than The Sex Purge Movie, which seemed to be commenting on social distancing and stuff, framed as totalitarian, but agreed with it anyway?
As I understand it, The Last House is a cosmic horror story so some unseen thing that is trapping you in your house and could kill you if you go outside it at least fits the metaphor of the pandemic, contrasting with that Michael Bay film he made really early in the lockdowns that basically framed it as the government trying to isolate people as a means of fascist control (y'know, the incredibly irresponsible approach back in 2020 or whenever he made it).

So at school today (first teacher workday of the year), we were told to pick a card from one of two decks. One was Marvel comics themed, the other DC comics. We would then find whoever picked the matching card & that person would be our partner for the day’s activities.
