obsessed with louis being not so morally perfect (and the few fics i've seen exploring it are SO GOOD) so ima ramble. get all my thoughts shot a you with my awesome vsmp hyperfixation beam

canonically, louis was turned by his mother as a child. at eight years old. that would mess a little kid up so badly?? especially a young trans child who ages incredibly slowly and has to feel the dysphoria of adolescence for hundreds of times longer than a human. also louis' mother, vedette, is NOT a good person i do not CARE what luanne's canon lore is (no shade to luanne- he's a great storyteller, love her). vedette was 100% one of those controlling, over-protective "my baby needs to stay my baby forever and i can't see them as their own autonomous being" parents.

i have so many ideas for v!louis' backstory that i'll never end up writing out, but i'm mostly just so curious about how he managed to get away from his mother. how he managed to figure his own identity out. how he sees what vedette did to him. if it was an isolated incident, he would probably realise the unhealthy family dynamic after a while of being in the actual outside world and interacting with people (because i doubt vedette would have let him....)

HOWEVER. the more interesting option is that louis' mother - and louis by extension - was in a cult. similar to the 'hierarchy' that the vampire who thralled cleo was in. perhaps even the same one! (i don't know the most about v!cleo's lore so forgive me if i got anything wrong there.) in that case, louis probably never would have been disillusioned; he'd not see the problem with his mother turning him when he was so young and genuinely couldn't give informed consent

AND THAT WOULD EFFECT LOUIS' RELATIONSHIP WITH OWEN SO MUCH. because vampire cults definitely have the 'humans are inferior' thing. how would that change things? we only know louis through owen's eyes. we don't know louis' thoughts or feelings or anything. i love how much of a blank slate character he is, and how complex and interesting the information we do have is

I JUST LOVE V!LOUIS. OK. A LOT CAN BE DONE WITH HIS CHARACTER AND HE IS MY LITTLE GUY.

ougfghhh oughhh dies from your hyperfixation laser beam and my ghost floats up like a cartoon

i didn't know that about v!louis' turning! good to know, the brain worms are wriggling already, and thats such a fascinating concept for his backstory! I agree that v!Louis not being as moral as he seems works best when he genuinely doesn't know that what he's doing or the way he thinks is bad and immoral, truly believing he is doing the right thing and has peoples best interests at heart. v!Louis is a kind soul in his own mind, i think, something something villain born of a sheer desire to help and be good, no matter how he goes about it. Though unlike most characters who fit that trope, he genuinely doesn't know it's bad.

my favourite characterisation of v!louis would be "nice, not kind"

like he's soooooo nice. he's such a sweetheart. he does nice things all the time and he helps so many people and he's always smiling and sunny. he thinks he's doing the good thing! because of how nice he is everyone else thinks he's doing the good thing! even he is oblivious to the harm he is doing, because he was a victim of that harm and thinks that it's normal......

I can’t remember where I saw it but someone said that Owen would cross dress to pretend to be Louis’ wife and grrrrrrr it’s circulating in my brain now- Or possibly the other way arounddddd- I love cross dressing trans men- But Owen pretending to be Louis’ wife for social situations is SLOWLY TAKING ME OVER

AU: The beacons were broken from the start, the barrier never rising, ample room to run away from the vampires that lurk in Oakhurst's territory. Some escape, never being seen in the area again, but as the years pass, these characters are drawn to each other by fate. Or: No barriers, giving much more room for world building and an impressive travel budget :]

Normally, all vampires remember their turning and the entirety of their vampiric life perfectly, with any memories they had at the time of turning set in stone. The only things that can change that are A. a traumatic turning, leading to the ability to repress memories (including those of the turning), or B. head trauma during the turning process, leading to an incredible faulty memory (can be better or worse, depending on where the head trauma was and when in the turning process it happened). Cleo would probably know this and be incredibly concerned for everyone turned in Oakhurst as a result.

However, this leads to one small issue. Scott doesn't know how old he is exactly. And even if his turning was traumatic, he should have some memory of when he was human he could use to figure out. Unless there was head trauma involved in his turning, before any vampiric venom had the chance to freeze his memories. So the first thing that would've had to have happened in his turning was his head getting slammed into the floor/wall/other hard surface. And something like that would never be involved in a consensual turning.

noooo v!Scott angst </333

Human V!Scott that is unexpectedly skilled at cooking. He is a noble, yes, and logically he has no business being that good at it. But see he's always been very, very picky with his food. Anything that doesn't fit his exact preference he'll refuse to eat altogether. So as he grow up, he decides to take matters into his own hand. Surprisingly he quite enjoy this specific type of labor (cause Scott likes cooking mods). It's now a skill he holds immense pride over.

Anyways~ he doesn't care that they're magically stuck with the undead in the middle of nowhere till who knows when. He REFUSES to eat some bland old bread! (Shelby accidentally getting a personal chef lol)

Also imagine if his first order of business after vampirism is real to experiment on how far he can process blood and raw meat as food ingredients until they stop being consumable to vampires, cause sure they taste way better than any other food now that he's undead, but they're still...meh. Unless he find some miracle blood that meet his standard then he'll just have to make some bloody meals that does!

Vampires: You're a vampire now, glad to see it, we really need the numbers in the battle against the humans

v!Scott, who has been using his newfound lack of need to sleep to binge cook in the kitchen for four days: Wbhuh?

oops misclick i guess you guys are getting two posts in 20 minutes LMAO

I think v!Owen would really do well at a fire lookout job. He in the woods and up high and can see things. I think he'd enjoy it

I'ma just send this here even though I posted about it cause I wanna hear more opinions from others tbh

A bloodletting AU where the cure didn’t actually cure Owen. Instead, it knocked him unconscious, and 50 years later, when he wakes up, it had also messed up his thoughts and memories, making him forget everything that happened after his turning and making him think/hallucinate that Legundo is Louis. After the original plan to get out went sideways, Cleo convinced Legs to continue living as a vampire. Now Owen is back after being unconscious for 50 years, but he thinks Legundo is Louis.

I imagine Owen very slowly regaining his memories, but refusing to acknowledge them because it would mean his beloved is dead and the man he clearly has gained feelings for is someone else. Meanwhile, Legs has to deal with his own conflicting hatred of Owen in his memories from 50 years ago, with this very different Owen who is both openly loving toward him, but also clearly lost and wrong. Later he has to battle the guilt of catching himself enjoying the affection of Owen, even if it’s not meant for him, but a different, long-gone man. However, by that time, I would imagine Owen is barely starting to come to terms with the situation after regaining most of his memories.

Owen is a cat—no, like, literally! He was the feline familiar of a witch named Louis. He was practicing his human transformation in secret to surprise Louis, when he sensed the fire... And so, his human form was never completed. At any given time, there is one part of him that will always remain a feline (tail showing, cat ears, paws, etc).

uhhh whatever, *catboys your v!owen*

All of the bats are fruit bats now

vampires still having the gothic villainous ethereal aesthetic but only munching on fruits and berries is hilarious, nothing changes about their overdramatics, they just eat fruit

What if; the curse Scott into eternal slumber operation was actually done while he was already asleep?

Scott takes naps once in a blue moon and it just so happen to align with the time people were already gonna curse him, so they took the chance to avoid at least fighting him. Now, without their Sire to lead the change, the rest of the coven fell much more easily and thoroughly. So when Scott wakes up, a lot of the items left behind by his old coven, like the closet full of old fancy clothes apparently, is no more.

Scott now must navigate the events of VSMP in his pajamas—the horrors!

Alternatively, he could also take a note out of Martyn's book and stole other people's clothes...making that his first priority after waking up. Whoever unlucky enough to get mugged—and probably mauled let's be real here—by the vampire before ever reaching town, gg.

my first thought was Scott in one of those cartoonish outfits with the nightcaps, but lets be real he is wearing nothing short of the silkiest flowing dressing gowns you have ever seen, complete with slippers and everything. and it would be funny to see him rob the clothes off somone, especially considering the small amount of people in Oakhurst because he's gonna walk into town and someone's immediately gonna go "hey those are my clothes!!"

AU where Scott is the only starting vampire. Owen remains human, though everything in his backstory remains *mostly* the same(it just takes place the next town over & ofc the typical butterfly effect of Owen not having been turned). Louis still gets buried on a pyre, Owen still massacre’s the town(though he had to get a lot more creative this go round…) and he still perceives ALL humans(including himself) as irredeemable blights upon the world. His core motivations and goals remain the same as canon, he still plans to kill everyone in Oakhurst, vampirism or not.

For some reason, the recency of his massacre perhaps, despite being mortal the beacons still sort of register him as a dark force. It’s not entirely the same as a vampire, though. He doesn’t interrupt a beacon(for either sides!), and he can still assist humans on consecrating, but the moment he tries to turn a beacon on his own? It corrupts. Owen is functionally a neutral-evil force that requires all beacons to be one side to escape the barrier. This effect also leads to an unusual misunderstanding; everyone, including the vampires themselves, believe Owen to be a vampire. They simply refuse to believe he’s a mortal, and his attitude towards humans certainly don’t help… but he can’t become a vampire, either. Only Louis would be allowed to do that, he refuses to even consider the possibility of another.

headcanon time yay

so if we take the events of vsmp as having occurred somewhere around 1890-1930. and Scott's been asleep 600 years. he would have last been awake around the year 1300 (or earlier, even). he wouldn't have any idea what was going on in the world or, especially, any period-accurate clothes. taking the same time period, Owen's massacre would have happened sometime in the late 17th/early 18th century.

so because no one's been in oakhurst for 200 years, that's the most recent stash of up-to-date clothing available to Scott when he wakes up. and now, clothing from the early 1700s isn't wildly unimaginably different from 19th century fashion, but it IS very different nonetheless. noticeably so.

Scott would have likely walked into Oakhurst that very first day wearing something that everyone thought was strange. Most of them probably assumed it was just because he was an eccentric weirdo and moved on (he is). But we mustn't forget - who exactly lived in (presumably) the castle 200 years ago and was in need of clothes that would appear mostly normal but provide vampiric benefits (ie sun protection)?

Louis.

So imagine Owen waking up, finding humans in Oakhurst again, and then going into the town and seeing this random guy wearing Louis' clothes. "i didnt know you were a vampire" my ASS (he said something along those lines to Scott when they turned Pyro)

"vsmp is set in the fall" "vsmp feels like winter"

yes but have we considered the Over The Garden Wall theory of time progression?

as in, the first episode is the very beginning of fall: crunchy leaves as they explore the woods, sunlight shines through dappled leaves, it's chilly but warm enough to keep from needing a coat

as the series progresses, it begins to get greyer. clouds roll in, it begins to rain at night, like the blood moon is weeping. it gets colder, and instead of laying down coats to help with gathering apples people begin to bundle themselves up as best as they can

by episode six it's almost constantly raining, dreary grey november skies that suck the colour out of everything. vampires go out to fly and come in shopping wet and shivering, more firewood is burnt every night because it's cold

avid dies as the first flakes of snow begin to fall. his grave is covered in a dusting of snow, and even though it rains that night it's a mix, half snow and half rain that builds up in a messy slush on the ground.

episode eight brings the first real snowfall. it collects on the ground and character's hair, snow that doesn't melt on the vampires' skin, snow that makes ice form on glasses and characters stumble as the storm grows throughout the day

louis finds owen with snow in his hair and sorrow in his eyes. martyn dies in a blizzard so thick it's hard to see the blood. the vampires are all wearing thick cloaks they borrowed from the castle, and cleo loans hers to pearl

the storm begins to calm as oakhurst is freed. abolish finds the carriage waiting for him as the sun begins to break through the clouds, and cleo and pearl watch the sunset spread golden light across the snow.
