The obligatory self-intro: I've been around rpgs since 1979, the beginning of my own 'golden age of gaming'. RPG favourites include Call of Cthulhu, Justice Inc., and Classic Traveller. I have a love-hate relationship with (A)D&D, it being the first RPG I tried), and the RPG I'm currently playing is a D&D campaign that began in very early 2002.
Author's I enjoy include Jack Vance, Jack Finney, Jerome K. Jerome, John Dickson Carr and J.B. Priestley (hmm...a few too many J's there...add Fredric Brown, Howard Browne, Robert E. Howard, Lester Dent, Raymond Chandler, Norvell Page, Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, and Gene Wolfe).
I'm a fan of Old Time Radio, especially Carlton E. Morse's blood and thunder serial 'I Love A Mystery', which I actually have a (badly updated) web page devoted to. I also like old B&W movies (though I dislike this word for them), music from the 80s, and I loathe cats.
The title 'Age of Menace' is the same as my periodic 'zine contributions to the APA "Alarums & Excursions" which I've been participating with since ~1992.
It was my interest in the pulp genre--the passion, energy and high idealism as portrayed by movie and radio serials of the 1930's and 1940's, as well as the larger than life exploits of such pulp heroes as Doc Savage, the Spider and the Shadow--that I used the above title both then and now.
I'm still interested in such vintage stuff, material from my own golden age of SF, Fantasy and Gaming (the early 1980s) and now my phoenix-like rediscovery of gaming in the early 2000's, as well as the larger and more complicated world around us. As a result, the above title has added resonance and meaning, if only to myself.
