I have a leak in bathtub drain and have replaced the basket and tailpiece but can’t connect to old brass threaded tee because it it apparently has nonstandard threads and slightly smaller actual OD than standard brass 1 1/2” slip joint nuts. Is there anything other way to make connection.
Old Brass Tee = 14TPI, 1 11/16" OD (actual)

How old are we talking about? Do the threads look damaged? Make sure it is brass and not brass like. I think I read on here there are some pipes that are a bit different. If possible, take the old fitting or good pictures(with measurements) to a plumbing shop.crip659– crip6592025-10-08 21:41:28 +00:00Commented Oct 8 at 21:41

A picture would help. However, one can always cut off the threaded part, slip on or in a standard part, and solder.DrMoishe Pippik– DrMoishe Pippik2025-10-08 21:41:45 +00:00Commented Oct 8 at 21:41

If you can't find compatible parts (and brass drain fittings use some especially weird little threads) then you have to replace the Tee with a compatible fitting for the parts you can find. If you haven't already thrown them away, or at least the trash hasn't been picked up, take the parts you removed to a pumbing supply (not a big box store) and you might find exactly the parts to replace them that do fit. A real plumbing supply counter person has seen them all, and has most of them on a shelf somewhere, and usually can order the especially weird ones. They'll also know if they can't.Ecnerwal– Ecnerwal2025-10-09 01:54:37 +00:00Commented Oct 9 at 1:54

Older bathtub drains frequently utilised 1 3/8 inch tubing and 1 3/8 inch slip-joint connections. They are just like modern 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 slip joints, except sized in between. Any good plumbing parts vendor should have the parts, and there are any number of on-line sources for them.kreemoweet– kreemoweet2025-10-17 03:32:45 +00:00Commented Oct 17 at 3:32
