A quasi-productive morning! I notified the State that I'd transferred the title, and my insurance company that I didn't have Roland anymore (coverage was paused, for a minimal fee but since it's unlikely I'll be driving I figured I'd save that), and got a Father's Day card for Tim, though I'll wait a bit on mailing that.

These are truly magnificent photos - just beautiful.
These 15 Majestic Photographs Showcase the Beauty of the Great Lakes and Will Make You Fall in Love With the Natural Wonders
The images of Lakes Huron, Erie, Superior, Michigan and Ontario are pulled from submissions to the Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest
Not just any body of water can be deemed a great lake. The five Sweetwater Seas comprise the world's largest surface freshwater system. Like oceans, their salty counterparts, the lakes are known for their massive volume, deep basins and violent storm capabilities, yet they’re distinct from oceans because of their relatively low tides and reliance on land-based precipitation, not marine circulation. Clustered in the Midwest region of the United States and extending into parts of Canada, the Great Lakes and its surrounding basin are home to 30 million people.

Describing characters greeting each other - "those two were holding each other like divorced penguins reunited after war". This is so oddly specific, and so damned charming for some reason. Loved the mental images *g*

My, what HUGE ears you have! - oriental shorthair kittens, ready to fly away

For some weird reason inside my ear was itching ferociously for several hours this afternoon - but kinda into the ear canal, so I couldn't just scratch it. No clue what caused it, but thankfully it was mostly done by 7:30.

I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake By A Horse
This horse makes some excellent points! "Because I am the good horse. I am a good horse and I deserve cake." I've been trying to decide what sort of cake - vanilla? maybe lemon or strawberry? I don't know if chocolate is hazardous (as with dogs) so probably should skip that. What flavour would you suggest for a Very Good Horse?

Just got a notice that [archiveofourown.org profile] Helenish posted a bunch of backdated works - most of which are popslash! You can bet I'm going to check them out; not sure if it's old stuff that I read years ago, or stuff that was sitting around on a drive somewhere, but as a fan of hers generally, I've got to explore.

[personal profile] misbegotten shared a couple of articles about Queen Camilla's gifting Roo: This one has a pic of the actual Roo she gifted. And here's a close-up

I despair of our educational system: "The cleopatra thing was by accident, since I though Romans and Greeks were the same at one point writing this"

Six Decades Ago, a Boy Stole Medieval Tiles From an English Monastery. He Just Returned the Illicit Souvenirs
A ghoulish face and a graceful dragon decorate the broken clay tiles from the late 13th century or early 14th century. They were found tucked in an old toffee tin
“The delicious irony of this is that, now I’m retired, one of my hobbies is archaeology, and the local society I’ve joined are likely to take a dim view of this!” White says in the statement. “So, after almost 60 years, it’s only right and proper that the tiles are returned home.”

It sounds like Steph's family descends on my sister on Friday, staying for a while. Steph has work, so she & Nora will fly back around the 17th, but Tim and the boys don't have any real obligations, and will be staying for an indeterminate period before driving back. No idea if I'll see any of them, but hopefully they'll have a lot of fun (and create some chaos). My sister asked if I'd order some art-type stuff for the kids - of course I said sure, if she could get me a list. So I'll be doing that soon, probably.

Awww, I hope you're able to see the kids while they're here.

I would definitely give a horse a vanilla cake with raspberry filling and Vanilla-raspberry icing, like a pretty swirl. Maybe some of those little sugar pearls on top for decoration. I would think a horse would like that.

I hope they can fit in a bit of a visit while in Oregon. I'm not counting on it, but it would be great

that sounds like a very nice cake! oddly, I was also thinking of raspberry filling - great minds, yeah?

Carrot cake! It sounds like this horse is looking forward to frosting, so maybe I'd go with a caramel frosting instead of the traditional cream cheese... horses like sugar and caramel is basically sugar-flavored? :D

oooh, that's a very good suggestion! I think you're right, Horse would likely enjoy that thoroughly (as would I)

they're kinda cute *g* definitely a family resemblance - I can so see Steph as a kid in them, and Teddy is growing to look like his dad

Believe it or not, itchy ears deep in the ear is a common peri- and menopause symptom. Something to do with hormonal shifts affecting membranes and skin.

If that’s you: Some folks find relief by gargling with mouthwash or warm saltwater which I guess wiggles the Eustachian tubes or resets nerves there or something, and some folks put flonase on a qtip gently into the outer part of the ear canal although I would really check with a real doctor before trying that.

hm, that's interesting. I'm long past menopause so it may not be related, but the q-tip idea isn't bad. just need to get some *g*

Helenish! Popslash! I saw that too and I was delighted. I keep telling my younger fandom friends how exciting popslash was, because it felt like we were figuring out how far we could take this RPS thing. Half of the thrill was the discovery.

you're so right - it was amazing to see how far people could push the boundaries; I still laugh about the number of known writers who developed a new pseud for popslash, cuz they didn't want to be formally associated with icky RPS. and there were so many fantastic stories!

Yes! What a good horse!

How about carrot cake?

Incidentally, chocolate - or the theobromine in chocolate- is hazardous for humans too. We just are so big that we’d probably be sick with indigestion long before we ate enough of the stuff to even make us vomit.

Horses are even bigger than humans so….

(But humans really are the only mammals who live with humans who can have chocolate.)

thanks for the info - not that I'd likely ever need it (even if I get a cat, feeding it chocolate isn't a thing I'd try) but good to know. guess I'd best not plan on eating the entire contents of a See's store, yeah?

It has to be carrot cake, right?

Lovely pics of the kids. I hope you do get to see them.

you are correct! several people mentioned that, and of course it has to be carrot cake

I think the kids are adorable, but I'm slightly biased. I'm not at all certain of their itinerary; they were due to arrive today, and there are tons of friends and people to see/things to do, so I'll be grateful if they can fit in a visit.
