Prange Digital Children's Book Collection

The Gordon W. Prange Collection contains more than 8,000 children's book titles.  They include 1,608 picture books (ehon), 2,069 comics (manga), 4,275 story books (yomimono), and a few other formats of materials, such as board games and coloring books.  These children’s books are file copies of the Civil Censorship Detachment (CCD), which operated between 1945-1949, the first four years of the Allied Occupation of Japan (1945-1952). They bear censorship markings, including CCD stamps and numbers, examination dates and, occasionally, action taken, such as a disapproval or violation.
