My Thoughts on Yuletide.
Disclaimer: These are my thoughts, based on the Yuletide FAQ and several years of participation. Your mileage may vary, please keep your tentacles inside the ride at all times. Do not disturb the hippos, etc.

Upon scanning over some of the optional details and additional requests, I have noticed a few trends. Some of them are no doubt due to new people who aren’t as familiar with the rules and limitations of the Yuletide exchange, but the trends are strong enough that I felt a few things ought to be cleared up.
Optional details are optional.
Yuletide matches you on the fandom offered/requested and the specific characters chosen (or ‘any’ if you were brave enough to go that route).
That's it - and that's where your writer's responsibility ends. A lot of them choose to attempt to meet the optional details, but... they are Optional. That's on the part of the writer, as well as the requester.
