So I started the new search properly yesterday. I think I got a lot done, even though the progress is never immediately obvious.

I did get one bite right off, but the web software used to test for French language skills was having trouble working with my browser. As the company involved is one that I like working with and hope to work with again - and they're actively working to resolve the issue to our mutual satisfaction - I don't think I'm going to name them here.

Also, before my contract ended, I decided to finally get a license for Fontlab. I'd been wanting that for decades.

Decades.

Because I already have a Typetool 3 license, I was able to get upgrade pricing. Not much of a discount, true, and I am okay with that. I've resumed work on a pet font design project going back a couple of decades inspired by background stuff in DC Comics' Legion of Super-Heroes series.

Got laundry done. Carried out some of my democratic duties as a registered member of a political party. Got shopping done. Did my weekly CPAP equipment-cleaning. Also, continuing with the star map projects and checked in with some of you, here and elsewhere.

A productive Sunday.

Working on multiple maps of the same region of #StarTrek 's version of our galaxy is fun. It's also research-intensive and time-consuming, especially where keeping the various maps consistent with each other is concerned.

From last night's progress to such ends in support of several Tranquility Press fanfic projects...

I filed my application for coverage under the federal dental insurance plan yesterday.

Finally.

Having a little fun with the map projects before bed. Equuelus, Hercules, Sagitta, Corona Borealis, Aquila, that general neighbourhood. Places like Kitalpha, Ancha, Bunda, Libertas? Breen neighbourhoods!

Nailed down four more systems' host stars last night. I'm not entirely happy with the choices, mainly because the catalogue numbers available to use are not short enough and distinct enough. Numbers starting with GAIA DR3, APASS9, SKYM2, 2MASS and so on...and the SIMBAD database is very much a work in progress, perpetually playing catch-up with the new data - or old data finally data-entered after months to years' waiting - as it comes in.

I got a bit of fannish satisfaction today. This is a thing I've been working on the last few months.

Not done yet, of course.

Good night and good luck.

I finally started to solve a puzzle I'd set up for myself in my Edge of Midnight project tonight. I'll try to share what I did tomorrow at some point.

Okay, so I've been having fun reading this serialised Star Trek-linked fan-fiction dressed up as a history book called Edge of Midnight by John Concagh AKA "Seamus Devenish". So much so that I've started working on a "base map" to show his version of the affected regions of the Federation-Klingon border.

If you're interested in keeping an eye on my progress and you're not already on the relevant Discord or Facebook pages, I've got a thread running over at the Affinity forums, since Affinity Designer is what I'm using for this project.

This is still a work in progress. I am not happy with legibiity of the place names, not yet. I've switched most of the labelling over to Helvetica for now, pending a decision on what to switch the labels to.

If you know of any communities and connections that I should add to this map, please tell me!

I've managed to file a job application every day on average this week.

I'd like to think that being able to do that is - for me - worthy of some note if not celebration.

Got started last night. Expecting to make time for more practice today.

I am inclined to think it wasn't a disaster.

Whether or not it was a success, we'll have to see over the next 2-3 weeks.

I was discussing the lists of recommendations, one from from the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls' Inquiry and the other from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission elsewhere on Facebook this morning. From the MMIWG recommendations, this is one I can selfishly agree with:

4.5 Establish a guaranteed annual livable income for all Canadians, including Indigenous peoples, to meet all their social and economic needs.

That aside, I'm making a note to review the whole list. If there's some web site tracking Canadian and Canadian-adjacent nations' progress towards achieving them...?  CBC News has a page set aside for tracking progress on the TRC Calls to Action.

Looking at this for a few minutes:

https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2021/09/electric-cars-have-hit-inflection-point/620233/?utm_source=feed

I didn't think things were moving this quickly on the global scale in terms of cars and trucks. Yes, the manufacturing process is still messy as Hell. But are we making progress of some sort here? I think the answer to that question is "yes".

[personal profile] armiphlage, [personal profile] autopope, you might have some informed context to add here...? Anyone else?

The title and summary of his opinion is in the URL. I'm not convinced that Mr. Maher is correct, and unsure of how much progress we're making towards building a more just society, but he has a case to make here.
