Speaking as a Canadian?
Canadian independence is at stake. If we end up geopolitically sandwiched between Trump and Putin again, we are at risk of ending up like Poland did from 1939 to 1945. As a battlefield, as an involuntary host of death camps, as a client state. Invited to submit to anschluss at best, blitzkrieg at worst. The Trumpists may say that they're focused on Mexico and points south right now, and we cannot rely upon that fixation to remain. Even if it does hold, we will need to take sides in any case.
To any Americans who can vote this upcoming November? Please vote for Kamala Harris, as she is the best of the available options right now. Do push for better candidates in the years that follow, yes. Absolutely! And vote for Harris as soon as you can, while you can, to make sure that you will be able to keep voting.

Matt Galloway and Rachel Maddow discuss how "all of this has happened before; all of this will happen again"...and not in the context of Second Galactica.
Yes, what we're seeing in the States at the moment is not the first attempt to steer that country onto a permanently fascist course.

I have this horrible sense that the current executive staffing at DC Comics is about to be undone. Looking at what's already happening at CNN and HBO Max is clueing me in.
The nightmare scenario I expect based upon reports re: changes at those other branches of WB-Discovery's corporate empire: trade paperback collections and e-subscription access might be severely curtailed in order to reduce revenues going to creators of those older works; the current payroll being targeted for purges of non-Trumpists; the DC character roster being ethnically "white-washed" and otherwise altered to serve Trumpist audiences.
Am I wrong to expect this?

Political Gunfight at the CBS Corral?
Mar. 30th, 2022 05:54 pmSeems to me there might be a political fight at CBS HQ soon, if not now, between the bosses of the news division vs. those of the Star Trek offices...because I've seen the content and casting of the current Trek series. And have you noticed who the news division's taking on as commentators? Mulvaney and who else?
Yes, I am absolutely speculating in an ill-informed way here. It looks to me like the two divisions of the company are going to be at cross-purposes.

Stereotypes, Republicans, Wisconsin
Nov. 18th, 2021 07:57 pmThere is a stereotype being built here about Republicans from Wisconsin, and I'm afraid that this is the latest installment in the self-wounding process. I say this because CBC News has noticed Rep. Glenn Grothman, my friends.

"Postmedia emerged from previous owner Canwest's ill-fated gamble on multimedia "convergence" between broadcast, print and digital media. The papers were bought at bargain prices by its creditors with U.S. hedge-fund backing. Since 2016, Chatham Asset Management has held about 66 per cent ownership, a company with an 80 per cent stake in American Media Inc., controversial for its ties to former U.S. president Donald Trump."
American Media Inc. was, until April 2019, the parent company of The National Enquirer and Globe.

Now, I'm wondering what Hudson Group's interest in buying those tabloids was. And does Dufry AG's leadership understand what their Hudson Group subsidiary has taken on? If so, why? If not, why not?
