Terry Fox Run '06

It's almost that time of year again.. Time for the Terry Fox Run!

This year, the run is on 17 September 2006. That is THIS SUNDAY!
I've started my goal at $1000. Last year, it was $500, and I met it! Hopefully this year I can go even further!

Cancer has personally touched my family far too many times. I lost my grandfather a couple of years ago. This has greatly affected me and changed my life. My family also lost a very close friend to the disease. And recently, an even closer friend has been diagnosed with cancer and he is going through the unfriendly process of chemotherapy. Without donations and support from the community, treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery could not be possible.
This is a terrible disease that too many people in this world are suffering from. It seems the more we grow in this world, the more people we learn of who have it. But the more we raise the sooner we can find a cure!

Online pledge donations can be done here.
If you would like to pledge for me in person, I'm sure we can arrange a time and place to meet.
Or, if you would like to do the run with me, that would be great!
Tell your friends and families! Let's see how much we can raise to fight such an awful disease!

Like I said, the run is THIS SUNDAY 17 September and it is located at Rotary Park in Ajax, Ontario.
It's 10km long... So that's pretty long!

Hope to hear from everybody... I'll keep you updated with how much I am raising!
To date, I have raised $240. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
I keep forgetting to mention in my previous e-mails that I am going to be matching the highest donaton - so far, that is $60.

Thank you again, everyone!

I arrived at the bus Saturday morning to discover that I was going to be the only glock there this weekend.

That meant that I would be [basically] holding the band together for three parades. That's a long time to be playing by yourself.

Two parades later, I was exhausted and fell asleep two drinks into partying it up in Michigan.

Next morning, I was asked if I knew any American songs, which I apparently did, and ended up playing one of them as my glock solo. It was all very last minute and I hadn't practiced it in over two years and it was so overwhemling.

On parade, the Americans all started clapping and singing along to it, which gave me performance anxiety, and I screwed up, but that's okay because I finished it and they cheered and I don't know if I've ever felt that good in my entire life.

But it only got better because the band asked me to play that solo while they were marching off after our show at the VFW (the American Legion) and the entire room was clapping and singing and it was just me and our bass drum and our drummajor and they were all staring at me and I did not screw up the song once. So I take it back and say that that was the best thing I have ever experienced.

The band told me that I would not be paying for any drinks or for dinner and I didn't. And then when I got off the bus at my stop every single member who was left on the bus applauded me and I just couldn't look at them because I was smiling so hard and my face was so red and I thought I was going to cry and it was all so over whelming. I take it back again and that was the best moment ever.

But then my mum called me today and I was telling her the story and she was so excited [and I could hear it in her voice] and she told me how proud she was of me and how she couldn't wait to tell my dad [who in the background was asking what she couldn't wait to tell me] and Ken [the VP of the navy league branch] and Ross [my commanding officer] and how she was going to brag and that she was just so proud of me.

So I take it back again, and say that that was the best feeling of my entire life.
