Here's how it works: I send out a group email to all of the hired photographers of weekly assignments. The assignments are usually Wednesday-Saturday events in downtown Detroit that range form WSU sports events to art hangings at the MOCAD, and sometimes documenting politicians.
The assignments are first come - first serve, so you have to check your email daily, if not twice daily to stay in the running. I will not discriminate based on image quality, because if you shoot a lot, you will get better on your own. I just want to know who really WANTS the assignments, who has a hunger for photography.
I encourage creativity, experimentation, and breaking the rules.
The job does not pay, but provides clippings for future jobs, and plenty of useful journalism experience. I will provide every photographer with a copy of the issue they shot for upon request.
You do not have to be a Wayne State student to apply. This is a perfect job for anyone of any age who wants to update their portfolio, or mingle about in Detroit.
