This summer I went home to visit family for the first time nearly 3 years. Home for me is a fleeting thing. Being in the Air Force for many years I adopted more than a few places as home, but Louisville, Kentucky and southern Indiana was where I grew up and became much of what I am today. Like the Ohio River falling over the McAlpin spillways, the years have slid away from me and my connections to the Louisville area. Each time I’ve returned, it’s been more unsettlingly familiar. Childhood memories juxtaposed with places that have changes over the intervening years. One thing remains constant though.. the river.
