Review of Stila "In the Garden" eyeshadow palette and Laura Mercier Bronzer in "Dune".

Hi everyone! At the end of February, I went shopping in Shadyside (one of the SEVERAL neighborhoods of Pittsburgh); my Mom and I decided to visit Shadyside in order to use a Groupon for the Harris Grill. We haven't been shopping in Shadyside for months. Thus, I figured I would cease the opportunity to shop! One of the stores I visited was SEPHORA! (http://www.sephora.com) Recently, I've been watching a few of the makeup ladies on youtube (mainly: BeautyCrush, Pixi2woo (Tanya Burr), MissGlamorrazi (Ingrid) & FleurdeForce)

If you wish to watch and listen to my review digitally, please click on this link to my youtube video review! :D
Based on my observations, I noticed that most of these ladies use a bronzer in order to contour their cheek bones. Moreover, these ladies have recommended Laura Mercier (both in particularly: BeautyCrush and Pixi2woo). I decided to test out the Laura Mercier Bronzer in Dune.

I've tried other bronzers before (mainly, bronzers from Rimmel London). Previous bronzers have felt heavy and looked unnatural on my fair skin tone. In contrast, the Laura Mercier bronzer in Dune appears to be natural and is very slimming for my round face shape. I highly recommend this product! Plus, the packaging is BEAUTIFUL! The overall design of the makeup and the packaging exhibits a luxury quality. Also, I enjoy the sea-shell pattern, displayed on top of the makeup!

Next, I bought the Stila "In the Garden" eye shadow palette. Stila Cosmetics is one of those makeup brands that has intrigued me for quite some time. I appreciate the fact that Stila is founded by a women entrepreneur. Plus, several of the "teen" magazines (such as: CosmoGirl! J-14 and Seventeen) I read growing up would feature Stila products. Although I have sampled Stila lip glosses in the past, this was my FIRST purchase of their makeup line!

This eyeshadow palette is IDEAL for young, mid-level and advance professionals (whether you're an intern, a recent college grade or an Executive Director)! I appreciate the versatility of this eye shadow palette. The first-half of the palette (from the left to the middle of the box) features more neutral tones (PEFECT for a day at the office), while the second-half of the palette (from the middle to the right) is ideal for an evening out on the town.

In addition, the "In the Garden" eye shadow palette provides the user with a "lookbook" aka a "how-to" guide, with tutorials on different eye shadow looks from this collection.

In my opinion, the Stila eye shadow palette is very versatile and would be compatible with any skin tone and skin type. Although the Laura Mercier bronzer is PERFECT for my fair skin (and is recommended for beige skin-toned ladies as well), I’m not sure how effective the bronzer would be for darker skin tones. Even so, both of these products are good quality and worth the money! I’ve been using both products since the beginning of March and I’m so pleased with their quality and their wear-ability!

Once again, here is my Youtube Review of these two products: http://youtu.be/KBF3NqbT8z0
If you desire, you may watch my Sephora HAUL video on youtube (featuring these products): http://youtu.be/RxkfX6vd31w

Thanks everyone! My next mission: I will attempt the different looks from the Stila "In the Garden" lookbook and post them soon for you all! Feel free to either post a comment here, respond to my youtube video or post a photo with you and a makeup "look" from one of the mentioned products!

Ciao Bella,

Deppthinking

Groundswell Book Review

Jackson/Groundswell Book Review

11/13/10

Through reading Groundswell, I learned about social media marketing and strategies to connect with an audience. Ironically, I chose the book Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff because this was the title my local Borders had in stock. Thanks to my local Borders (and fate), I have gained knowledge of the Groundswell and I believe I am capable of sharing this information with others.

Before revealing my own opinion of the book, I wished to read reviews of the book in order to learn more about the Groundswell. First, I read a review on Amazon.com by a user named Robert Morris from Dallas, Texas. Morris defines he Groundswell as socially interactive sharing of information between the employer and the customer (and vice versa). Throughout the book, Charlene and Josh cite examples of different corporate companies utilizing digital media. Even though Robert believes some of these examples lack relevance, the examples create a point of reference for each key element of the Groundswell (Morris). I enjoyed reading Robert’s review since the writing stemmed from an actual customer, not a publishing house attempting to glorify the book. Morris shared his honest opinion with the many users of Amazon.com. In my opinion, a customer review is more reliable than an editorial review since there is no bias intact.

The next review I read is from ribbonfarm.com; the blogger’s name is Venkatesh Rao. He is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Xerox Innovation Group and he blogs about philosophy, art, sociology, business, technology and innovations. Rao believes Groundswell presents a good mix of “abstraction and anecdote" (Rao). Venkatesh believes Groundswell is an instructional book, not a conceptual read. Even though Li and Bernoff claim to explain all the aspects of the Groundswell, Rao thinks they only covered “pieces”. Even so, Charlene and Josh are off to a good start- sharing operations and tactics, not strategy, with the audience (Rao). I chose this review since (once again) it’s a customer review and this particular user is invested in business, technology and innovation.

After researching the book, I felt I was able to articulate my opinion in a more effective manner. I recommend reading the Groundswell Book- especially if you are eager to learn more about the digital world and how to market to consumers. In my opinion, Groundswell gives professionals (such as technical writers) a basis for blog writing, social media, online journals and publications. I discovered the key to the Groundswell: if you allow the consumer to interact and create within the Groundswell, you will succeed. Also, start with a marketing plan, not with the technology. Despite the book’s usefulness, I thought there were too many Groundswell examples within the book. While I found some of the examples informative, other examples were unnecessary to me since I had not experienced them at a professional level. In addition, some of the examples were a bit lengthy. Even so, I believe Li and Bernoff have provided us with vital information to tackle digital media and please our audience.

Wireframe Project

In my Writing for the Internet class, we are assigned a practice wireframe project. What is a wireframe? Basically, it's a sketch or skeleton of the layout of a website. For this assignment, we had to review the www.chatham.edu website and create a wireframe for it (in this case, working backwards). Here is my wireframe project- enjoy!

Groundswell by Charlene Li & Josh Bernoff

For my Writing for the Internet class, we had to choose a book (from a list of three) to read and give a Book Report on by Week Five. Luckily, my local Borders left me with an easy decision, as they only had one of the three books in stock. Needless to say, I am happy I chose Groundswell by Charlene Li & Josh Bernoff.

Groundwell discusses social technologies and new media, what they are and how we can use them. PART ONE of the book is drawing near and I'm already hooked! :D

Hello World!

Hello friends, classmates, professors and web surfers!

I haven't written in this blog for quite a while, but this bad habit will be changing soon. For my Writing for the Internet class, my professor asked us to keep a blog of our book discussion, class topics and new media experimentation. Let the mayhem commence!
