*taptap* Heeeeeeey there

Long time no see? Yeah...

Long story short: it's been a fucking crazy year, I substituted two-way online interaction with a ridiculous amount of tumblr reblogging, bought a house, took the GREs, got into grad school and am now suffering the pangs of NOTHAVINGPEOPLETOTALKTOABOUTTHINGS (for which I only have myself to blame).

I managed to get sucked into the Teen Wolf black hole of WTF (and oh god, it's all about to start again, isn't it) with forays into other, smaller, fandoms.

I have recently succumbed to a combination of my Chicago & fannish roots and become way too over-invested in hockey. I have no clue how to cope with targeting a fandom-level obsession on a team sport and it's seriously messing with my equilibrium.

*waves*

So, how are all of you doing? Are people still around, or has everyone ascended to another plane of fandom already?

Vaguely drunken Inception Rewatch Thought: Arthur

I really, really want an AU where Arthur trained as an astronaut at one point.
And that's how he does the twisty-hallway-wtf-where-did-that-badass-come-from scene.

Maybe it was something political, some asshole took a disliking to Arthur or was motivated in other ways to fail him out the program, and Arthur was all bitter and angry and choked on the futility of his own dreams. Some enterprising person was like "Fuck, this guy is good at stuff, and now he's all bitter and and biased against authority, let's recruit him to a life of crime."

Thus Arthur entered dreamshare. It's close enough to the feeling of impossibility, close enough to the limits, and he's lost enough without the guiding force of the last god knows how many years of his life, that he jumps in head first. Most of the practical skills he trained in aren't useful, though some of the computational physics (and all of the ability to think calmly and quickly in life or death scenarios) applies.

And, of course, there are those times when he has to function in altered gravity situations. He gets a couple of looks for his skills in that area (NASA probably never figured that training would be put to use holding imaginings in choke-holds), but no one guesses.

When Arthur's alone in his own mind and feeling particularly nostalgic or exhausted he puts himself under and dreams worlds into actual space, trying to convince himself that floating in there, holding his breath, zero G and all the stars in his eyes, that that is just as good as being an actual astronaut.

It almost is.

It's sort of sad, how fandom becomes the lens through which things are judged

BBC - Facebook's Eduardo Saverin quits US ahead of flotation
Facebook's co-founder Eduardo Saverin has renounced his US citizenship ahead of the company going public on Friday.

I'm sure I should have some sort of other opinion on this, but honestly all I can think of is "how will the fic work this in."

I'm a bad informed citizen, aren't I. Ah well.

(PS, hello everyone! I'm still here, just mainly been hanging out on tumblr recently)

A request

I have had much, much better weeks than this week. Without getting into details, can I just ask: if you have happy things, funny things, cute things, really good fic recs, anything like that, would you mind sharing them? I could really do with something positive and distracting right now.

Thanks.

Be still my heart

Panic! at the Disco covers Adele's Rolling in the Deep. Watch in HD if at all possible, it's really worth it.

My reaction was as follows:
Ooh, yes please.
OK, I like it. Not as good as the original, but I like it.
Very interesting interpretation, definitely a new spin on things.
Yes, good, where's Spencer?
Hi Dallon, Hi Ian.
Brendon, you look deliciously scruffy.
Where's Spencer?
Oooh, bridge.
Where's Spencer?
Yes, nice.
Where's Spencer? Damn it, camera, show Spencer!
OH SHIT SPENCER.

Someone please talk with me about Smash?

I like it. I know it's not perfect, but I really like it.

And while we're talking, can we also talk about Dev (Raza Jaffrey), because if I could pick anyone on TV right now to date it would be him, without hesitation.
(There may be others with whom I'd have flings, but there's something so wonderful about Dev's character and his relationship with Karen - it makes me want to cuddle with him on a sofa while reading. Also, I find him ridiculously attractive.)

Article: Online Plagiarism and Erotica (thank you NPR)

An article/story on NPR (audio and transcript): On Amazon, An Uneasy Mix of Plagiarism and Erotica. There's mention of specific cases, but also a general discussion of the ease of plagiarism of erotica (available elsewhere for free on the internet) and the way some forums/sites are intentionally monetizing plagiarized material.

Given the previous experience of some fandom authors whose stories have been ripped off (names changed and republished, etc.) and also the way some fandom authors legitimately re-purpose their fandom writing as original writing, I think this is a pretty relevant topic to our interests.

Coffee / base by bisty_icons

Fandom writers, have a present

Found this while searching for communities for with the band Fun. in their interests (of which there were none because this is a sad, sad world)

fandomcoffee

For all your Coffee Shop and/or Barista AU needs. There are only two posts, but those two posts right so, so many fictional wrongs.

(PS: If anyone does know where the Fun. fans congregate, point me in the right direction?)
