[Maul, at least at this age, is still innocent of true malice, and honestly didn’t understand he had done anything wrong. That would change as he got older and into his teens. As an adult, his cruelty was most definitely deliberate.

[ Honestly, is there an acceptable answer here? Tony figures there isn't. In war and in life, some things are just unacceptable. Is his death one of those things? Sure it is. Just like all the deaths that came before his.
But they came to the realization that unless they wanted to risk undoing everything they'd already achieved, they had to accept those things. And Tony believes that with time, people like Bruce will accept his own death, if they haven't already. It's hard, still, because the man in front of him hasn't had the same amount of time to process all of this, and it's because of that that Tony wanted to spare him from telling him about it.
It's not fair that he has to shoulder this too, on top of everything else, including this place. Deerington is far from a walk in the park. ]
Yeah. Now I'm here, for better or for worse.
[ He'd like to make it for the better, but that remains to be seen. ]

[ Jeff stares at him, uncertain of his own feelings when he hears his words mirrored back. It isn't just what he says, but how he says it, hopeful, a little eager, with an edge of distress. Jeff, filtered through another person. He can't not be reminded of Ziggy, and the way it likes to speak using other people's voices. Through radios and tv sets, headphones, sound systems... In the beginning, it could only ever hijack soundwaves.
That's what it sounds like, when the boy repeats his words, down to the cadence. It's like Jeff, using somebody else's voice to speak. For one strange moment, he's honestly not even sure if that is what's just happened here, and thought alone should send him running.
But it doesn't. Unsettling as it is, it's at least a familiar kind of strangeness. He looks down at the tableau, startling a little when asked that question. ]

[ He starts without even having an answer ready, cutting himself off as soon as he realizes he has no idea where he's going. It's a straightforward question, sure, but fuck if he knows how to answer. He used to think of himself as so many things, but the labels just feel like scrubbed up lies. Gifted, bard, singer, frontman, rock god in the making... They don't even sit on the tip of his tongue anymore. ]
I make magic out of music. [ His eyes are on the bird, and then it hits him, and he breathes out a soft, gloomy laugh. ] I'm a fucking... canary.
