[ Vasiliy sits on a desk in a dimly lit room with a faint cyan cast to every illuminated surface; grime somewhat resemblant of algae glistens on the stone wall behind him. Fatigue is evident in his voice when he speaks. ] This is Vasiliy. I will be staying in medical pavilion for those who need care. I do not have my pager from Deerington. If you have medical emergency and need dispatch, call my cellular number. I will come as fast as I can, but there are no ambulances here. Call as soon as you suspect medical situation β do not wait. We do not have time here like we do in Deerington.
[ A pause. ]
I need help. Surgical theater of Medical Pavilion is not sterile and supplies are short. I am doing my best to clean but I am only one person. We need soap, bleach, bandages, cleaning supplies. Labor. For benefit of all sleepers.
Another thing: do not touch dead bodies with bare hands. Do not touch blood with bare hands. We do not know what is their cause of death yet and it could be contagious.

I'd be happy to lend a hand. ( ironic given the woefully flat tone in his low-pitched words, but he's earnest. ) More than to just repay you for earlier. ( for cleaning his wounds, for...that extension of care. ) Is there anything you're in most dire need of, that I can look for on my way over to the medical pavilion?

Despite having mentally catalogued the small amount of inventory available to him, he still has to pause for a moment to consider what Ben might actually be able to find here. ]

and he perks back up, eyes rounded with mild surprise. it isn't at the assurance that absolves him, rather...how eerie it is to be at the receiving end of words he's spoken countless times in the past. )
βI don't feel indebted. ( the bloom of insistence cools quickly and Ben is almost demure as the words of his pending admission pile up on his tongue, words that he has to hand out with sudden care. ) I have gratitude that I've meant to give.
Besides...we need a clean surgical suite. I don't want it to be me and my stress-induced ulcers on a filthy surgical bench, even if I'd trust you with a scalpel over me. ( his smile bleeds warm and true, but it actually isn't himself that he thinks about in earnest. if it comes down to someone he cares for here being laid out for emergency attention...Ben doesn't want them, or even a stranger, made susceptible. )

Even in light of this revelation, however, the age of this particular volunteer doesn't escape his notice. The boy looks to be maybe 10 or 11, and to be here, he would have had to survive the nightmarish ordeal onboard that ship, which is a sobering thought. It's too much trauma for a child that age β certainly he himself had come out of a boyhood filled with comparably grisly sights and experiences relatively functional, but at what cost? He hadn't been the same after seeing a dead body for the first time, and he doubts that this young man will be either. ]
Please, and thank you. Take somebody with you. [ No telling what might be lurking around here. ] If there is bleach, too, or tile cleaner, bring it if you can. [ A faint smile. ] You are very brave.
