The purpose of this community is to:
- Educate the fat-phobic, sizeist, and ignorant.
- Work towards providing equal opportunity for fat people wherever obstacles and/or discrimination exist.
- Disseminate information about the sociological, psychological, legal, medical, and physiological aspects of being fat.
- Advocate and sponsor responsible research about the various aspects of being fat.
- Empower the large number of people regarded by the medical profession as "obese" to accept themselves, to live more fulfilling lives, and to promote acceptance of fat people within society.
- Serve as a forum where issues affecting fat people can be discussed in an unbiased setting.
In joining this community you do not negate sizeism nor any other form of discrimination such as racism, classism, ableism, sexism, ageism, or languagism. Sizeism is not comparable to any forms of these discriminations or prejudices, nor can you lump them into one neat little category. While the ideal of oppression may be similiar between these issues, it is not the same for the people who suffer as such. By the way, this community has nothing to do with
debunkingwhite, although the concept is similar.
This community is not for:
- Fat-phobics who are here to insult.
- Sizeists who are unwilling or refuse to learn about the real issues at hand
- Any member offat_rejection unless you email one of the moderators and explain why you think you might benefit this community.
- Trolls.
"Tough love" will be present here. We are not going to hold your hand and tell you that everything's okay. The world doesn't work like that. If you wish to unlearn your prejudices, ignorances, and fixed notions about sizeism, then by all means, please join. Remember, this is a safe space for fat people.
