My wife’s idea of decompressing after the busy holiday was to rearrange every piece of furniture in our home is this an ADHD thing or just a her thing

I’m not complaining the way she’s done it is much better than it was it’s just like how is this your idea of a relaxing weekend

So to me, there are spoons (general energy cost) and carnival tickets (specific energy cost).

Spoons can be used pretty much anywhere.

Carnival tickets are only good for the carnival, and it’s only in town for a limited amount of time.

So like, if I get “kitchen cleaning” carnival tickets, I can’t use that to clean my bedroom, that’s not where the carnival is.

there’s so many myths about fathers getting prophecies that his children will kill him and it’s always the father trying to avoid this fate by exiling or trying to kill his children but. what about this.

it’s prophesied that your child will grow up and kill you. and you know what the oracle thinks you will do about this. you know by her smile that she knows it won’t work. but you go home and you look at your infant and you know you will not. you hold your infant and you know that you will never not love them. that you would never attempt harm upon them. even to save yourself. you hold your toddler’s hands as they learn to walk and your heart feels so big in your chest as they toddle towards you that you know you would never send them away.

your infant grows into a child and you love them and the prophecy of your murder hangs above your head and all you can think is that you hope you have taught your child well enough that your death will be kind.

your child grows stronger and you teach them how to weave and how to wield an axe. you fix their posture as they learn to shoot a bow. they grow strong and brave and kind and you know you could never ever harm them.

and the your child learns of the prophecy. they learn that they will kill you. that it is fate. and they look at you and see a man who held the and wiped their tears away and helped them back to their feet and was never ever anything angrier at them than they deserved. and they look at their hands and see red. and while you have accepted your fate as a dead man. your child has not yet grown to know that their parents will die. your child has not accepted their fate as a murderer.

and so they run. they leave at night and they go far far away and they never ever come back and it hurts them more than anything ever has but they are comforted by the fact that they won’t kill their father. that their hands are clean. that you are safe.

and you?

you die of a broken heart.

My mom is in the hospital. She’s getting released today after they take some bone marrow, which will be a relief not just because we’ll have more concrete answers on her condition but because she’ll finally be free of her nemesis, Larry.

Larry is a night nurse. Now, from everything my mom has said he’s a very nice man. He’s a big black guy who in her words “shouldn’t be that quiet.” Once again. Larry is a night nurse. Being quiet is a pro rather than a con here. But when he’s in the room my mom will startle awake and see a huge figure checking her vitals and it startles her every time.

When we went to visit her she had several Larry encounters to relate. Larry wanted to help her get her socks back on. She was too warm and she didn’t want them. Poor Larry took her temperature and it was 103, and alarmed, he took it several more times. All the same result. But when another nurse came to check it, it was 98.6. My mom blamed Larry for scaring the other nurse.

This was is stark contrast to Enrique, a stocky gay man who is “on it.” When my mom wanted to shower he was right there with towels and a plastic sleeve for her IV insert. When my dad needed a chair Enrique was bustling away down the hall to retrieve one.

Larry, who’s just doing his best and is very tired, is not “on it.” He’s maliciously insisting on socks and scaring her on purpose. I still appreciate Larry though.

my first memory, and I swear to god, is waking up on my third birthday, realizing I had no memories of anything that happened before that moment, and then realizing I could use my free will to do anything and whatever I did now would actually happen. and then saying the word “Cool.” and getting out of bed

cheerynecromancer

I woke up, no pants, sprawled behind the couch, and first thought was where am I, what apple juice, and why do want it… and it was downhill from there.

DON'T ASK YOURSELF "AM I A GOOD PERSON?" ASK YOURSELF "IS WHAT I AM DOING GOOD?" OR EVEN! "WHAT'S A GOOD THING I CAN DO RIGHT NOW?"

DON'T WORRY ABOUT JUDGING AND SORTING YOURSELF! JUST MAKE YOUR BEST CHOICES!!

tinkerbitch69

Ok but pls actually do this people. There is no such thing as a good person. Stop trying to be one and starting trying to do good instead

aren't gorillas gentle giants or something. i stay out of his way, he doesn't maul me, we have a nice time picking out clothes together in opposite sides of the mall

friendshapedhole

Male gorillas are super aggressive and territorial. Also they interpret nearly every human mannerism as a sign of aggression or a challenge. Smiling and eye contact are both things that zookeepers have to be taught to suppress when they’re in the vicinity of gorillas.

Well unless the mall is his native territory I think I'm fine, I wasn't planning on smiling at him

max1461

This is all irrelevant because the obvious answer is five black mambas. I mean, that’s not actually very many snakes, and malls are fucking huge. And unlike a gorilla you can definitely outrun a snake if it does show up. Find an open space in the mall where you can see any snake coming and just hangout out there. Fucking easy.

triviallytrue

Misguided! I would much rather have a mallmate I can easily see and hear coming. I'm confident I can stay out of the gorilla's way, but if I step on a snake or one otherwise gets the jump on me, it's all over.

It's not just about the physical danger either, it's about my mental health. One gorilla, unless he's actively mad at me, I just keep a healthy distance between us and make sure I never get trapped. With the snakes, it requires a lot more constant vigilance

ghostpalmtechnique

They should substitute "chimpanzee" for "gorilla" in this hypothetical.

triviallytrue

if it was a chimp i'm taking the fucking snakes

notwiselybuttoowell

Black mambas have a reputation build on being very venomous and very fast. I'm not sure why you would think you could outrun one (or five) in an enclosed space like a mall.

chaumas-deactivated20240115

Malls usually have pretty slick floors, and escalators. I’d choose the gorilla simply because I think that would make an more interesting story (and a better-selling autobiography, I Survived the Mall Gorilla) but I think I’d stand a pretty good chance at avoiding the mamba. They’re fast and aggressive and will chase you but unless we started immediately beside each other I think my sneakers would have the terrain advantage over scutes.

i keep having dreams where i’m fully immersed in extremely mechanically complex horror games that don’t exist and it’s so bizarre especially bcs while i’m actively dreaming everything makes perfect sense, the rules are all already there and rock solid, it doesn’t feel at all like i’m making it up as i go, but then i wake up and all comprehension of it immediately slips thru my fingers like sand and im left tripping over my words trying to explain it. really weird feeling
