Minor changes to archive categories!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to mention that I've spent the last week sorting out redundancies in the archive, as well as alphabetising pairings for both ease of navigation and to limit those redundancies in the first place. Yes, I know, I'm crazy and pedantic.

Anyway! This means that some pairings have been switched around (eg. Bart/Tim/Kon is Bart/Kon/Tim, Clark/Bruce is Bruce/Clark, Wally/Linda is Linda/Wally). Also, in cases where categories for [character], [character] (comics), and [character] (animated) existed, [character] (comics) has been resorted as [character].

If you can't find the category you're searching for, it's probably just been rearranged. ( :

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Also, just something interesting I've noticed: Het pairings in the archive are sorted as [man]/[woman] more than eighty-five percent of the time. o.O
Maybe there are secret places., Babs = Porn

YAY. THE CRUSHING LONELINESS HAS ENDED.

Er. By which I say this: Thank you, guys, for volunteering. I've alreaded hooked up a few of you with mod access, and the rest will happen as the new victims volunteers join the comm and I remember to, you know, deal.

What this means for the *rest* of you... is that it's time for our periodic fic round-up.

Notes for the new archivists:

Important note to the new mods for future reference: There are a lot more of us now, and there are a lot of writers who cross-post to different communities. To avoid double- and triple-indexing always, *always* index the copy of the story on the writer's personal lj, even if it's just a link to where the story is posted on some random comm.

Important note to writers for future reference: Make our lives easier -- always, always post at least a *link* to your stories on your own ljs.

HELP MEEEE.

Okay, so here's the deal -- if you guys want the index to be remotely completist, I need to have more people on indexing *duty*.

So, let's have some volunteers!

Who I want:

1. You're on at least 2-3 DC fanfic communities -- especially if at least one of them is Toon Titans oriented.

2. You're willing and able to at least *check to make sure* the DC fic you're reading has been indexed before you close the tab.

3. You can follow my instructions even when I can't. (The most important thing: Whenever possible, memory the post the writer placed on his/her *own* lj -- assuming there is one -- rather than the one on the community, so as to avoid doubles.)

4. You're willing to go back and make corrections -- and can take the initiative to take things over when I can't be online.

HELP. PLEASE.

Comment on this post! I will add you and mod you.

It's that time again...

We here at the fic index try to add all of the stories we can, but we know full well that we miss all kinds of things. So, in the interest of keeping things as complete as possible, we need your help.

If there's a story of yours which you know isn't on the index, but *is* on lj somewhere? Leave a comment here with the following information:

Title/Link to the story
Author/Pen name of choice
Pairing(s) (if applicable)
Main characters
Genre(s)

So, for example, if you wrote a gen detective story featuring Bart and Jim and also an undead zombie army, you'd comment with:

Title: Damn, I Love The Crack / [url here]
Author: Your Name
Pairing(s): None
Characters: Bart Allen, Jim Gordon
Genre: gen

Or, if you wrote the porn-filled sequel to that:

Title: No, It Gets Worse / [url here]
Author: Your Name
Pairing(s): Bart Allen/Jim Gordon
Characters: Bart Allen, Jim Gordon
Genre: slash

And so on. It is *wildly* important that you give us character and genre information, because that's how we classify things -- and that's how your readers will be able to find it. I'm serious. If you comment here with just a title and a link, I'm going to have to open that proverbial can of whup-ass.

Casual, short F.A.Q.:

1. But, Te et al., how do I know if my story is there or not?

Well, I'll tell you: The best way to confirm that your story is here is to check under the pairing (if it's het or slash), or under the name(s) of the main character if it's gen.

2. Well, then, Te et al., you must not have my story listed, because it's 75,000 words of Bart/Tim romance and there's no Bart/Tim at all!

Oh, there's plenty -- it's just listed under Tim/Bart.

3. Well, I have a Bruce/Babs story, but it's based on Batman Beyond canon -- should it really be with the others?

Absolutely not. Just specify when you comment that you're writing in the animated universe, and we'll do the rest.

ETA:

4. What if I have multiple snippets in one post?

Give us the title, pen-name, and pairings, with a note about it being multiple snippets. Do not list each snippet separately. It's more work for you, and confusing for us.

Make your indexer's life easier...

Just in case anyone cares, I thought I'd post some guidelines that would help me and the other dcfic_index indexers out. Please note that I'm not trying to tell you what to do, nor will we yell at you if you *don't* do these things-- it's not like this is a 'real' archive where things must be submitted correctly or they won't be approved. I'm just saying that *if* people did these things, it would make the job of indexing DC fic on LJ easier. :)

And also, it's time to once again ask, please check the index to see if your DC fic is there, and if it's not, please leave a comment with a link to said fic, so that we can add it. Thanks!

New stories!

Shyeah, like I'm actually going to list all of them. Our little fandom has been expanding like whoa, dude. We've been adding things as fast as we can, but I sincerely doubt we've gotten *everything*.

And so, this is where we step in to ask the *writers* to check the memories and see if there are any stories of yours which *ought* to be there that aren't. Probably the easiest and fastest way for y'all to do this is to search by the main/POV character(s) if the stories are gen, or by the primary pairing(s) if the stories are het or slash.

Let us know what we missed!

Comment with the link, and, to make it easy on us, the character(s) and pairing(s) -- where applicable.

Thanks,

Te. :D

ETA:

Also, I should point out that (as of right now) we're still not FULLY converted over from superhero names to civilian names, so for instance if someone's got a Bruce Wayne story, they should be sure to check both Batman and Bruce Wayne before reporting it as missing.

- Livia

ETA II:

As an additional ease-of-use thing, if you're listing multiple snippets in a single entry, please say that it *is* a single entry. For an example, if you have a post with a Bruce gen snippet, a Grace/Anissa snip, and a Gar/Spike snip, you'd say:

"Multiple snippets: Bruce gen, Grace/Anissa, Gar/Spike (Buffy x-over)."

Also, if your preferred pseud isn't listed explicitly in the post and *isn't* your lj name, please tell us what it is.

Poll for people who use this resource

There are nearly 400 stories in the index at this point, and I'm wondering a couple of things about how best to make it useful for people. So, here is a question. Please vote!

The first question is about the way memories are sorted. At this point, no distiction is made between TAS (The Animated Series) and comicsverse, TV-verse and/or movieverse versions of characters. Does this make the categories hard to navigate? This is already something of an issue-- there are so many characters that are so different in toons and comics, like Starfire, Wally West, Hawkgirl, etcetera.

I think this is going to especially become an issue due to the new Batman Begins movie and the upcoming season of Justice League, both of which are going to feature new alternate versions of established comicsverse characters. So, please vote on what would be most helpful to you.

Poll #325952 How to sort memories

How should fic be sorted? (using Wally as an example)

All fic about any incarnation of Wally West should go into a category called "Wally West." Toonverse and comicsverse and tv-verse should all be mixed.
16(13.9%)
There should be separate categories for "Wally West (TAS version)" and "Wally West (DCU version.)"
63(54.8%)
Either way works for me; I have no overriding preference.
36(31.3%)

P.S. Just wanted to pimp marvelfic_index. It indexes everything except X-Men movieverse fic.
