Stranger Than Fiction was not the movie I was expecting, but that's a good thing, because it ended up being far better than the movie I thought it would be. It stroked the English major in me quite nicely, there was one part where I thought the whole audience was going to "aww" themselves in oblivion, and lo and behold! Will Ferrell is really a great actor. And I do mean that in the dramatic sense.

Now, if I'm not sufficiently distracted by the Redskins/Eagles game... paper on the "writer's code" of Ernest Hemingway, here I come.

In other words, this movie is AMAZING and you need to see it right now. You HAVE to see it in a movie theater, too, because one must have the collective experience of watching two men naked-fight all over a hotel. IT IS SO INAPPROPRIATE, but in this way, it's BRILL.

There's also commentary you could make about how the movie's true brilliance is as a documentary on the pervasive racism that still exists in American culture, but why bother to overthink that much?

The gaggle of old ladies in the audience absolutely hated it (their running commentary in the restroom was hilarious), but I guess when the movie has a soundtrack of bands your grandchildren listen to, what are you going to expect?

Not every French film can be Truffaut.

Anyone else seen -- nay, heard of -- this film, Caché? We Netflixed it (apparently, it's one of my mum's favorites from her snotty suburban film club thing), and... well, I hated it. I absolutely hated it, and, I don't know, I felt like you needed to know this fact. I don't know what I disliked more: its lack of any semblence of a resolution, or the implied presumption that you were somehow lacking by wanting that "traditional" ending.

Meh.

(I hate movies like this SO. MUCH. Look, I can be as meta and as deep as any kid on the block, but it's also not wrong to want to stick to that tried-and-true exposition-climax-resolution structure. No, really, it's not. I want to be fulfilled! Yes! I know, it's scandulous, right!)

I'm pretty sure that the SciFi Channel has hired the same ad agency that does all those USA Network spots for Monk and The 4400 and... their other shows, because they're essentially the same concept ("fictional characters intereacting with the real world -- HILARITY INSUES!"). Or else someone thought it was an awesome idea to rip off, which, you know, just as likely! For the record: John Sheppard at a pool table in a bar and Sam Carter fixing things in the office. Anyway, I STILL THINK THAT THEY'RE REALLY GREAT. Sam is a bit MacGyver these days, though, isn't she? lolololz irony

"Home" is on TNT right now. Yep, STILL REALLY FUCKING CREEPY. Goddddd. (Also, kind of hilarious. The sheep! Mulder intentionally poking Scully in the forehead with the tv antenna! GOLD.)

eta: You know what, I hate that, for the World Cup, ESPN keeps using that U2 song, "Elevation." I used to actually like that song. BUT THEN IT STOPPED BEING 2003. /snob
