Since I do the blogs looking at every Pay-Per-View every month, I thought I would do one looking at WWE WrestleMania 42. To see the entire history of WrestleMania, visit the WrestleMania History HERE. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718). Thanks.
This will be the 7th year in a row that WrestleMania was held over 2 nights, & the 7th year in a row that WrestleMania was held on a different night besides Sunday.
This will be the 2nd time in history that WrestleMania will be held in the same building 2 years in a row & 1st since WrestleMania 4 & 5 in 1988 & 1989 at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The 8 wrestlers that are making their WrestleMania debut (Je’Von Evans, Oba Femi, Dragon Lee, Lash Legend, JD McDonagh, IShowSpeed, Stephanie Vaquer, & Trick Williams) were the 4th time after WrestleMania 6, 39, & 41 making it the 1st time in History that 8 wrestlers made their WrestleMania debut at consecutive WrestleManias. This brought the total number of wrestlers to compete at WrestleMania to 546.
This will be the 2nd time WrestleMania had 13 matches after WrestleMania 33. This brought the total number of matches to take place at WrestleMania to 486.
This will be the 5th year in a row that no matches will be on the Kickoff Show.
This will be the 3rd PPV of 2026 to not have a World or WWE Tag Team Championship Match & the 1st WrestleMania since WrestleMania 32 to not have one, though it’s the 2nd WrestleMania in a row to not have a WWE Tag Team Championship Match as the World Tag Team Championships were defended at WrestleMania 41. This will be the 3rd PPV of 2026 to not have a Women’s United States Championship Match & it has never been defended at WrestleMania or on PPV in History.

This will be the 63rd WWE, World, or Universal Championship Match in WrestleMania History, but 39th WWE Championship Match & 40th year in a row. This will be the 2nd year in a row that there will be 2 WWE & World Championship Matches at WrestleMania. This will be Cody Rhodes’ 12th WrestleMania, but 13th match as he wrestled twice at WrestleMania 40, tying him with Sheamus & Brock Lesnar, & Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, & Jey Uso this year for the 8th Most WrestleMania Matches of All-Time below The Undertaker (27), Triple H (23), Kane & Randy Orton (this year) (21), The Big Show, John Cena, Shawn Michaels, & The Miz (17), Kofi Kingston (16), Seth Rollins (15, this year), Edge, Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns (this year) & Jimmy Uso (this year) (14), 5th in a row, which is the most consecutive WrestleMania Matches in his Career, & 4th Championship Match in a row, tying him with Edge (24, 25, 26, 27), Brock Lesnar (33, 34, 35, 36), & Roman Reigns (37, 38, 39, 40) for 3rd Most Consecutive WWE or World Championship Matches at WrestleMania after John Cena (22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29) (8) & Triple H (18, 19, 20, 21, & 22) (5). This will be Cody Rhodes’ 1st Undisputed WWE Championship Defense, so if he loses, he will be the 1st since Brock Lesnar who lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38 on 4/3/22 to lose in his 1st Defense. As of WrestleMania 42, Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship Reign has lasted 43 Days, so if he loses, he would be the 2nd to lose in 43 Days after Brock Lesnar’s 7th Reign (2/19/22-4/3/22). This will be the 6th 1-on-1 match between 2 wrestlers where both of them won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania after Hulk Hogan VS Yokozuna (WM 9), John Cena VS Batista (WM 26), Roman Reigns VS Brock Lesnar (WM 34 & 38), Seth Rollins VS Brock Lesnar (WM 35), & Cody Rhodes VS John Cena (WM 41), making this the 1st time since Reigns VS Lesnar & Rollins VS Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 & 35 that it happened at consecutive Wrestle Manias. It has changed hands 150 times in History. If Rhodes wins, it will be his 1st PPV win since he defeated Drew McIntyre at Wrestlepalooza on 9/20/25, ending a 4 match losing streak on PPV & if he loses, it will be the 1st time since he lost 5 consecutive matches in a row on PPV since SummerSlam, Live From MSG, Royal Rumble, Roadblock, & WrestleMania 32 in 2015 & 2016. If Orton wins, it will be his 1st 1-on-1 PPV win since he defeated Joe Hendry at WrestleMania 41 on 4/20/25, making it the 1st time he won 2 consecutive WrestleMania matches since he defeated Bray Wyatt & he & Matt Riddle defeated The Alpha Academy & The Street Profits in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania 38 & 39, the 1st time he won 2 consecutive 1-on-1 matches at WrestleMania in his Career as he won a Triple Threat & a Singles Match at WrestleMania 26 & 27 & he won at WrestleMania 31 & 33, but didn’t wrestle at WrestleMania 32 & the 1st time he won 2 consecutive matches on PPV since he & Matt Riddle defeated Omos & AJ Styles & they defeated The Usos at Crown Jewel & Survivor Series on 10/21 & 11/21/21, & was his 1st 1-on-1 win on PPV since he defeated Joe Hendry at WrestleMania 41 on 4/20/25.

As of WrestleMania 42, Sami Zayn’s United States Championship Reign has lasted 24 Days, so if he would have lost, he would have been the 1st to lose in 24 Days. This will be Trick Williams’ 1st WrestleMania making it the 2nd year in a row after Jacob Fatu to make his WrestleMania debut challenging for the United States Championship. This will be his 3rd PPV in a row in 2026 after the Royal Rumble on 1/31 & the Elimination Chamber on 2/28, 1st 1-on-1 match on a main roster PPV in his Career, 1st match against a foreign wrestler since he defeated Rey Fenix on Smackdown on 2/13, & 1st match against a Canadian wrestler since he defeated Ethan Page in a Devil’s Playground Match at Halloween Havoc on 10/27/24. This will be the 4th 1st 1-on-1 match between 2 former NXT Champions at WrestleMania after Seth Rollins VS Kevin Owens (WrestleMania 36), Sami Zayn VS Kevin Owens (WrestleMania 37), & Seth Rollins VS Drew McIntyre (WrestleMania 40). The United States Championship has changed hands 7 times at WrestleMania with the last title change taking place at WrestleMania 41 when Jacob Fatu defeated LA Knight, so if it changes hands, it will be the 1st time since Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 33 & Jinder Mahal at WrestleMania 34 that it changed hands at 2 consecutive WrestleManias. The United States Championship has changed hands once in 2026, with the last title change taking place on Smackdown on 3/27, when Zayn defeated Carmelo Hayes. It has changed 183 times in History. If Zayn wins, he will be the 1st wrestler to retain the Intercontinental Championship, win the Tag Team Championship, win the Intercontinental Championship, & retain the United States Championship at WrestleMania in History & would be his 1st win on PPV since he defeated Karrion Kross at SummerSlam on 8/2/25.
