There’s a brief window between seasons in Oregon- at the beginning of summer where the wild grasses grow really quickly and green. It doesn’t last long though as the summer heat dries them out turning everything brittle and brown. This is my favorite time of year.

This was the first photo that I took on a backpacking trip to the Steens mountains in August of this year. We pulled the car over and were all a little bummed out that the forest fires in an adjacent mountain range were polluting the view. It made for a pretty interesting haze and all three of us composed at least one shot.

This is one of my favorite and most popular images. It was taken on a beautiful morning in July just as the sun came up.
One of the things that has drawn me to photography is the ability to capture the feel of a moment and this one does that better than most for me. Every time I look at this one, it takes me right back to that morning.
