This last Saturday (1/23/2010) the Harry Potter Fandom came together in a webcast to support “Helping Haiti Heal” to benefit “Partners in Health, a charitable organization that has been on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years and will remain in Haiti working to end poverty and bring about a healthier society long after the initial relief efforts have ended.

The webcast featured special apperances and performances from The HP Alliance, The Leaky Cauldron, PotterCast, MuggleNet, MuggleCast, Hogwarts Radio, FictionAlley, The Signal and TrueBloodNews, actors from "The Wire," and "Heroes"; wizard rock from Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Remus Lupins, Ministry of Magic, Lauren Fairweather, and The Whomping Willows.

You can listen to the recorded webcast at this link:  http://www.thehpalliance.org/haiti/

One of the really cool things about this fund raiser is that over 200 prizes have been donated.  Including a full set of Harry Potter books signed and donated by J.K. Rowling.  A guitar owned and signed by Tom Felton (Draco) and a ton of other fan related stuff plus stuff from other fandom’s like Dexter, True Blood, Star Wars and others.

For a current list go to http://www.thehpalliance.org/haiti/prizes/

This is not an auction!!!!!!  You make a donation and you are entered in a drawing to win the item you have selected. You can read the rules at http://www.thehpalliance.org/haiti/rules.html

You have until Saturday January 30, 2010 at 11:59PM to make your donations.

This is a great opportunity to help a great cause and possibly win some awesome Harry Potter stuff.

Harry Potter and the new movie "Yes Man"

Over the weekend I went to see the new Jim Carrey movie "Yes Man" - I am not a huge Jim Carrey fan but went anyway with a group of friends. In the movie Jim Carrey's character gets invited to his boss’s "Harry Potter dress up party"  The scene is pretty funny when Jim shows up dresses as Harry Potter - well sort of dressed as Harry Potter. You will understand when you see the movie. I am sure it is a dig at the Harry Potter fandom but I got a kick out of it. Esp. when you notice how his boss’s apartment is decorated in a Harry Potter motif. I am sure many of us can relate.  It's a funny romantic comedy.  If that is what you like it is worth going to and enjoying the Harry Potter scene.
