Wearing Her Naughties Like a Jewel

This is a difficult entry for me to write, especially after I've been at this journal for years, but I've been putting it off too long. September at my job is kind of crazy, which doesn't help either.

Due to a number of reasons (the Real Job search being one) I'm taking a hiatus from livejournal for the indeterminate future, until I figure out what exactly to do with it. For the curious:

1. I'm still working at the school. The library is all fixed up now; we have to enter alllll the books into an electronic database. That will keep me busy for a long time.
2. Dad and Brother are well.
3. My friends are awesome in every way. I'm going to Philly at the end of the month!
4. Yes, the Bachelorette is still around; despite my best attempts she hasn't been scared off. Yet.
5. My grad school application goes in on Monday. Fingers crossed.

Later that day...

Nick: ::eyes the chocolate soymilk:: Marie, what is it?
Me: Chocolate soymilk. You should try some.
Nick: You first.
Me: No, you.
Nick: No, you.
Me:...we'll both try it!

::Doop de doo, pouring soymilk, festooning with straws::

Me:...it tastes like Yoohoo!
Nick: It tastes like a chocolate covered soybean. But I've had worse.

I'm especially fond of the Chagall-esque graffiti (third row, second from the left).

Come to the dark side! We have cupcakes and glitter!

(And yes, yes, I still work with and love whimwham, I just like the new venue as a place to link all the things that were too girly or materialistic or not quite right there. It'll also be a nicer way to disseminate selections from the back catalog of whimwham to a new crowd.

I'm still pissed that one of the artists I featured there told me to get a life. Well, fuck you, see if you get any more free publicity from me. Anyway! Happy thoughts, and happy colorful communities.)

Wow - what is it in the air lately? Post after filtered post about how everyone is feeling alone, disconnected, unwanted. It's not like this is one or two people - it's like a rash all over my friends list the past few days. Male, female, betwixt, undecided, unconcerned...it seems to be an equal opportunity Brain Weasel.

Clearly, something needs to be done.

I think we need to have a Brain Weasel Stomping Day.

The problem, as I've noted before, is "it's easier to see the Weasels when they're eating someone else's brain."

So. This is my call to my friends list, and to your friends list, and beyond. This Friday, make an effort to squish someone's Brain Weasel.

Have a crush on someone? Post a flirty comment in their journal. Admire someone's skills? Post a comment about it. Just think a person is nifty? This Friday is the time to tell them.

Doesn't matter if the post your commenting to doesn't have much to do with your comment. Just post those good thoughts. Trust me. People will appreciate it.

Do this for everyone - not just those you suspect are feeling down (After all, you might not be on their Brain Weasel filter). Take a few minutes and help launch people into the weekend with a smile.

And...who knows? Maybe sharing how others make you happy will make you a bit more cheerful in return.
