Reminder: Sundays of Solidarity

Between May 17 and June 28, 2009,  groups of LGBT and allied people around the country will attend worship services at the church of their choice wearing a lapel button that reads “gay? fine by me.”  For less formal churches we also have a t-shirt with this message.  The lapel button (or t-shirt) serves as a conversation starter – opening dialogue with people in the church about faith, sexual orientation, and gender identity.  When that visible act of courage is paired with adequate training, then transforming hearts and minds becomes a bona fide possibility.  That’s why we’ve designed this web page, as well as a three-part teleconference course that covers the essentials of Nonviolent communication, Media talking points, and What both the Bible and science really say about homosexuality.  Those training teleconferences will be held on April 19, April 26, and May 3 at 4pm CST and are open to all our volunteers for this project. We hope you will consider organizing a Sundays of Solidarity project in your area.  It simply involves choosing  a church in your area that could benefit from an SOS visit, using your contact list to recruit others to join you, attending the teleconference training sessions, and then organizing your group to take action on a date, time, and church location of your choosing.

The training starts in a few days, don't miss it! If you haven't signed up yet, visit http://www.soulforce.org to sign up.

To shamelessly plug a little bit, if you ever order Wiccan/metaphysical books from Amazon, check out this page...Click the links on the top of the page and order there, it benefits the First Church of Wicca in Duxbury, MA. This is the church I attend and if you were planning on buying books or supplies anyway, every little bit helps!

How much is too much?

I have been trying to do some spiritual practice every day, and for the last few weeks have been quite successful in doing this. I've been able to go outside at night, light a candle, and practice as seems appropriate at the time. Now I have another spiritual exercise that I want to incorporate, but it has to be done indoors (it's a candle meditation, and needs to be done away from drafts). This means that I will be doing 2 different things. I'm wondering if this might be too much on a daily basis.

This has led me to wonder how much other people are able to do. So I ask: how much spiritual work do you find feasable to perform on a daily basis?

Hope You Might Join Me...

I have just opened a new spiritual forums and chatroom, focussing on a wide range of subjects from mediumship to the mayans, from tarot to jsut general topics and fun sections. It is a uk site and obviously, it is all free. I am hoping to take classes in the chatrooms at some stage...and am looking for people who might be interested in modding or doing readings/taking classes on the site. Anyway, feel free to register and have a peek, you dont have to stay if you dont like it :)

DAILY spirituality?

I think mine's dead. All I seem to get around to on a daily basis is lighting the night-candle for a friend and reciting his chant. Otherwise, daily practice seems to have gone out the window. How is everyone else doing?

LiveJournal as a devotional space

I can't believe I never did this until just like 10 minutes ago.

I have a lot of icons of Gods, Goddesses, Animal Guides, etc. who are meaningful to me. Anyhow, I just made a private devotional post to Venus, using her icon, as I have here. Virtual altarspace with built in iconography. Also, the little eye that LJ uses for private posts just makes me think that someone's watching along with me anyway.

FYI: Google Image Search is a great place to find appropriately sized (or close to perfect sized) icons for LJ, especially of Gods.

Provided I could locate a full pantheon as needed, I think I will make this a part of my daily cycle of devotions. I write in LJ all the time anyway.
