a) it's been ages since I wrote any kind of fiction
b) my writing skill has atrophied and I needed rehabilitation. That's why this chapter isn't really all that great, in my opinion. It's passable, but there's no spark or drive behind it. However, I wouldn't mind getting feedback about where you'd change things or how you would approach this particular setup to make it work.

So I went to Tokyo Disneyland with a co-worker on Monday. I bought this lovely toilet paper holder. And just to make things even more fun, my toilet paper is a light blue colour and smells like blueberries. :D

Oh Ohkubo, You've Outdone Yourself...
Whoops. It seems as though I've gotten ahead of myself. This is what happens when I let my fangirling get ahead of my brain. So in short:

My Thursdays Have Become More Interesting Lately...
I usually hate Thursdays, because 2 out of the 5 classes I teach make me want to smack my head repeatedly against the wall. The last two Thursdays have been very entertaining, though.
Take my kids class. One of my private lesson students signed her daughter up for lessons. The daughter is going to start taking lessons with a Japanese teacher come April (in Japan, school starts in April) but is taking three lessons with me as a teacher so she can get used to the way the classes are run. The thing about this girl is that she's very much like her mother: brimming with confidence and not shy in the least. And by the endo of the lesson she had 3 out of the 4 boys falling at her feet.
One boy confessed his love for her and got rejected. He has declared to everyone in the class that he will try again.
One boy was dazed with infatuation after she pulled the verbal rug out from under him. His reaction: "No girl has ever done that to me before, much less the first time we met. (Insert lovestruck sigh)"
One boy out and out asked her for a kiss.
Yikes. Like mother, like daughter. Just for reference, in the second week of dating her future husband, the mother of this girl basically said, "If you don't marry me, we're finished." They're married with two kids now. Fear the power of the lionesses in this family.
And my last class (this time with adults) was like the Jerry Springer show without the chair throwing. Or like Oprah. Some kind of talk show, anyway. I've dubbed it the Hour of Brutal Honesty. We were talking about what we want to do with our lives using the grammar points before, until, by the time, after, as soon as. The highlights of the class:
1. One girl asking the guy in the class why he was shy about approaching girls and then encouraging him to take liquid courage and snatch the woman of his dreams.
2. The same girl saying that she hoped she would get married by age 33 to a rich guy. And when asked why saying very bluntly, "Money is important."
3. And then the guy saying at the end of the class, "I want to make money to find a wife by the time I'm 30. Because (pointed look at the girl) girls think money is important."
LULZ.

You know you're proficient at Japanese when...
1. You can totally rock an English -> Japanese translation.
2. You can read family and given names of most people you meet without having to strain yourself at guessing which kanji read in what way. My co-worker has been asking me all week to help her read some student files in Japanese.
3. You can tell off a group of four 6 year old boys for misbehaving in your class.
Yeah. That last one. For over two years I was the sweetest teacher I could be. Then I realized that kids weren't taking me seriously because they didn't think of me as a "real teacher". Lately I've been being a bitch to some of them and that actually does work in keeping them in line. o.O;; So today, my four boys were hyper as soon as they got in - rolling around on the floor wrestling with each other so they looked like one giant Katamari ball. I tried telling them to sit down in English. I tried "Stop!" which usually works. And then as one kid tried climbing the window sill I just yelled in Japanese
"You're not here to play around, you're here to study English. This is an English school, got it? You want to play, you do it outside! Understand? Do you hear me?!" (此処遊ぶ為に来てるんじゃないでしょ？此処は勉強する場所だろ？遊びたいなら外でし
All four boys cowered in the corner and nodded. Sense of accomplishment +200 points.

So in the discussion class that I teach on Saturday, the two men in the class were debating where to go on a holiday. One guy suggested mountain climbing, to which the other man balked. And the conversation basically went
Guy 1: But you just said you have a lot of energy! What's wrong with mountain climbing?
Guy: You see, my energy is only effective horizontally, not vertically.
I laughed so hard. XD I need to find an excuse to use that line myself, sometime.
And about the latest Soul Eater chapter. Come on, Soul. The girl asking you to be her partner had her hands cupped in a heart shape. Some of those envelopes had heart stickers on the back of them. You can't possibly be that dense. Or is he trying not to make a big deal of it for Maka's sake? Thoughts?

Soooo... 17 weeks without posting. Wow. That's a first for me. I've had a lot to talk about, but life has been really eventful. There's too much to say, and I can't possibly pack all of that in so I won't bother. I guess I'll just start from the top again.
But yes. I do like the newest Soul Eater chapter, and I wonder if Mifune isn't based on Toshiori Mifune.
