September 2026 Baking Event Info and Sign-ups

Premise
One of the Baking Channel’s new but incredibly popular webseries, Space to Pastry, has a simple premise: travel through the galaxy to uninhabited moons or planets, set up a temporary professional kitchen, and send a message to any nearby ships that are traveling by to participate in a baking competition. The unpredictable nature of each competition has made it wildly successful in the short time it’s aired, and up-and-coming host Candi Carlyle is gung-ho about seeing its continued success! The R2 finds itself within range of the relentless recruitment signal, promising a shot at fame and marvelous prizes. Will you answer the call?

How the Competition Works
The baking competition will consist of three rounds of increasing difficulty. The character with the most points at the end of Round 3 is the winner. Players will be required to provide a recipe that best matches the prompts they are provided each round. There will be a dice rolling component which will be done through Discord (if you do not have/use Discord, send me a message and we’ll work something out).

Note: if you participated in the baking minigame in Lady’s Path to Aeon event, you will find this very similar as they are based on the same original ttrpg. However, many of the mechanics differ slightly so please read.

Bakers
  • Each character has three stats: preparation, baking, and presentation. During signup, you will have 5 points to assign to these three stats. These will be points added to your dice roll for each skill. You can deduct one point from a skill to add to your pool if you so choose (ie. preparation -1, baking +3, presentation +3). The points you have in each skill will be applied to their respective rolls each round.

  • At the top of the round, each character will roll dice to determine the type of baked good (ie. pie, cake), specific adjectives (ie. sticky, savory), and ingredients (ie. apple, fish) that must be incorporated in the dish.

  • Players will locate a recipe which matches these conditions and include it in their tag. This will be used as a baseline for determining the accuracy of a recipe to the prompts. If a player manages to find a single recipe that meets all criteria, they are awarded an extra point for that round. If the recipe does not adequately meet the criteria, one point will be deducted from your score for that round.
Rounds two and three will increase in difficulty with the addition of adjectives and ingredients to each prompt.

  • Once a player has selected a recipe, they will roll their three skills to determine how well they do.

  • There will be a toplevel post for each round. Once players have completed their rolls, they will tag into that thread with the recipe link and the results of their efforts. There will be no tagging order here, but the round will conclude when all participants have tagged.

  • At the end of each round, all players will have the opportunity to vote on the entry they think deserves a kudos. The entry with the most votes will get two extra points for that round.

Assistants
Want to participate but don’t want to commit to the full baking experience? You can sign your character up as an assistant. Bakers and assistant pairs can be coordinated ahead of time or assigned randomly. Think of this as a CR building (or breaking) opportunity. Can these characters work together in the perilous world of baking?
  • For each round, Assistants will roll a 1d4 to determine their pool of points. Assistants may apply those points to specific rolls to boost their baker’s score (ie. If a 2 is rolled, they can add 1 to prep and 1 to baking, or both to prep).

  • Assistants may also choose to use their points to sabotage other bakers. However, this is risky! A saboteur must roll 1d6 before their usual d4 roll. If they roll a 1, they are caught by the hosts and their baker will lose 5 points for that round. If not, they roll their 1d4 and can deduct those points from a competitor of their choice.

  • Once an Assistant has decided on their move, they will reply to their bakers’s tag or the person they are sabotaging with their action. The points will only be applied if there is an accompanying tag.

Threads and non-participant interaction
  • There will be three top-levels on the event post.
Competition threads: only recipe tags, assistant tags, and judge/host responses/results.

  • Chef/Assistant threads: threads where chefs and assistants can play out the baking experience

  • Non-participants and post-competition reactions: anyone on the ship can spectate and chat with competitors between rounds or after the competition ends

Other Info
  • Sign-ups will close on August 31

  • I’m planning to post the event between September 10-12, the competition itself run over the course of three days

  • Ideally, each round will take less than one week, which should be doable since we kept a pretty brisk pace during the Path to Aeon mini-game

  • In order to keep the number of characters from getting too outlandish, two options are up in the air: capping the number of characters per player, or implementing an elimination mechanic. Still mulling that one over but you'll be notified if either come into play.

  • I’m sure I forgot something, so use the thread below to ask any questions. You can also ask on discord but I’d like to have everything in one place for people to reference.
