Snitchdreamer=Cyberdigi...sorta

Greeting the few who pay attention to these :D.

As you might tell from the subject I’m doing an lj name change; not that most of you care ;) Due to “new management”, so to say.

This a journal primarily for reading fic and we haven’t posted much and that will not change.

(if you’ve spoken with someone one under this lj name I recommend reading under the cut)

Collapse )

Now a plea while Snitch hasn’t been on lj much she’d still like access and there are some on our friends list are purely just for her. I ask that while I might not share your interests please don’t unfriend this lj right away. If you’d like more info please feel free to comment or pm me.

I will likely not be posting much so no need to fear friends list being flooded.

I’m planning on making the lj look a bit prettier and making a banner. So for those who know “Digi” “Hi!!!!” For those that don’t please don’t unfriend me :(

Oh and I’m going to change the date in a few days to a future date so the post will stay on top so apologies if it pops up on anyone’s friends list twice.

Ten Years Ago, there were heroes and superheroes

Ten Years ago,
I sat in my Junior (Grade 11) English class waiting for the bell to ring to go to my next class (and I'll be damned if I could remember what it was now), with my heavy backpack on; when our principle came over the intercom and said two planes had flown into the World Trade Center, it was roughly 9:12am Central timezone. I remember chaos that day, everyone in my school trying to find out what was happening going to the library which had the only TV with cable and saw the Towers go down on the news.

For me in the midwest it was a shocking, if not disconnected, experience and I remember realizing in the following days, weeks, months, that this was one of the largest attacks on US soil.

I remember hearing about the lives lost, the firemen, policemen, civilians, and the fourth plane that went down.

I've been thinking of doing this post for the last week, thinking what to say (especially given I rarely say anything at all) and as I was thinking these things over I realized there were a few things I felt important to be said.

The first is the heroes. Ten years ago a day marked in tragedy was also marked with what I can only think to describe as hope, as heroes emerged from rubble. The policemen and firemen who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their duty and the ones that kept fighting and helping the days following. I can not take the title of "hero" away from them. However from my perspective I think of the ordinary people that helped each other and saved each other in the Towers, the people of Flight 93. The policemen and firemen did their duty fearlessly and without hesitation despite the danger, however there were the ordinary people, victims who took the time to save each other the ones that gave THEIR lives to save strangers. The people of Flight 93 who I'd imagine made the choice of try and take the cockpit back and maybe die or don't and definitely die and a whole lot more innocent people will die. These ordinary people did not have a duty to do any of this (unless you count human dignity) but they did it anyway and some/many gave their lives for it. So no I can't take the title "hero" from the brave firefighters and policemen, but these ordinary people did more in my opinion simply because they didn't have to, so the only thing to call them is "Superheroes".

The second is fear. Ten years ago the attack was an act of terrorism designed to strike fear in our hearts. Terrorism at it's root can not be won with guns, or in some foreign country. Don't get me wrong you can use guns and go to war in a foreign country, but that's not how to win against terrorism; people maybe, terrorism no. Terrorism wins when WE are afraid. So I stand and say I am not afraid. I honor the heroes and superheroes and lost souls of that day ten years ago but I AM NOT AFRAID and so as far as I go, they have lost.

LJ Facebook/Twitter work around to get rid of the annoying boxes

If you've already seen this feel free to ignore, but I felt it was worth spreading the word

Originally posted by beren_writes at LJ Facebook/Twitter work around to get rid of the annoying boxes
stolen from [info]pombagira who pulled it from someone else who pulled it from yet another person :) Yes, this is signal boosting.

Passing this along from my flist.

Thanks to [info]midniterose, here is how to stop the crossposting of comments/entries from LJ to sites like Facebook:

There is a way to disable everything. Here is what you have to do:

1. Go to your "Journal" menu, and select "Journal Style"
2. To the right, you'll see what theme you're using, with a link stating "Customize Your Theme". Click that link.
3. Scroll down a little ways, and you'll see that on the left side of your screen, you have multiple options to modify your theme. Click on the "Custom CSS" link, and it should load the options for doing Custom CSS.
4. From here, all you have to do is go to the "Custom Stylesheet", and put in that line.

.b-repost-item {display:none}

once you have it pasted in there, save changes.

Feel free to PASS THIS ON!!

ETA: This prevents the "repost to FB/Twitter" ticky boxes from being displayed when someone comments on one of your posts. It seems to work, UNLESS the person is viewing your page in their own journal style, in which case it might not work.

ETA2: Inserting the code below in your custom CSS box reportedly works for more kinds of journal styles, including custom ones (this courtesy of xnguard):

.b-repost-item, FORM#qrform > TABLE[style="border: 1px solid black;"]:last-child TD[style="vertical-align: top; text-align: right;"]:first-child { display: none !important; }
