Work-Study

Could someone please tell me about the work-study program at Hunter? Do you actually receive some sort of salary, or does it go toward your tuition? It's not just a form of financial aid for students who need it, right?

question on making up grades

Hey everyone....so...due to a lot of fuckery...I took Spanish 102 twice and failed it. Took Spanish 201 once and withdrew. I've now passed the Spanish 103 intensive and plan on continuing on to the Spanish 203 intensive. I know that when you fail a class and retake it that the original grade stays on your transcript bu the new one is calculated into your gpa instead. Does this work with language intensives vs regular language courses? I know they're not the "same" class and have different code numbers and all that, but essentially you are doing the same course work. What's the deal?

please and thanks!

Comparative Literature major

Does anyone have any information about Hunter's comparative literature major?

It says in the undergraduate catalog that you gave to choose between two different languages, genres and periods, and can even take courses in other fields in the humanities. Is this basically one of those "design your own" majors?

Auditing a class?

Hello,

So this is my last semester at Hunter (Fall 2011) before I finally graduate.  I'm so glad to finally be graduating, but there are still some classes I'd like to take for my own personal interest.  I wanted to audit these classes for the Spring 2012 semester, but I'm at a loss of how to do this.  I read that only 60+ year olds can officially "audit" a class, but I've been in classes where younger people have audited.  The reason why I want to audit a class in the spring is because I still want to learn new things but don't want the stress of getting graded and doing complicated assignments anymore.  I'd like to close out my "official" status at Hunter this winter before auditing a class in the spring.  I think if I register for a class for the upcoming spring semester, my status as a graduating senior will be on hold, but I'm not sure.  Has anyone ever done this before?  THANKS!!

Hey.

Does anyone know if it's too late to pick up tickets for graduation? The last distribution day was yesterday and I missed it but I wonder if any possibility of still getting them?

Thanks.

Commencement ticket price?

What have been the undergraduate commencement ticket prices in recent semesters?  The Hunter website tells you everything but the price and I need to inform family members for Spring 2011.  I know you get two free tickets for filling out that web form.

Collapse ) So I am sort of an assistant to an elderly painter in her home studio/office. Right now I'm working elsewhere, and can only spend about one day a week helping her. This position would be perfect for someone who is an artist (painter, sculptor, photographer-but film is OK too) who would like to gain some experience. The lady is very nice and sweet, and the work really isn't that demanding. Right now she just needs help organizing her art work (she has A LOT) and selling it. She also needs help with getting grants, making post cards, rearranging pieces, help with facebook and online visibility. This is something that would be perfect for someone who is in college, good with computers, and who can do some light lifting/handiwork

The only downside to this is that she can be a little all over the place. It may be hard to get a certain task done, she likes to talk a lot, so you must have some patience, but also be forthright about finishing something. She also has a hard time with the computer and internet, so you must have some patience in going over some things with her, even if it's repetitious.

That being said, this is a very well established artist (her specialty is Abstract Expressionist, and she has ties to Yves Klein, Giacometti, and others. You will learn a lot from her, especially if you are an artist, so this is a great opportunity. You will also meet a lot of interesting people as well.

If you are interested, please comment and then we can exchange emails and go from there. This is in Manhattan. Collapse )

I'm within my last 30 credits and retaking classes I've failed or received a WU in. I'm wondering if my original grade for these classes will still appear on my transcript when I graduate/apply to grad school? Is the grade "erased" from my gpa and the new one calculated instead? Any and all help appreciated.
