[And now, Red's entry for the "Most Pathetic Thing You Could Possibly Post" contest:]

I need friends.

[There it is. He's been hiding in the woods and avoiding everyone for the last three months, and what happens while he's gone? People start making friends, and he doesn't.

[He's tired. He's lonely. But most of all, he's socially awkward.

[He projects an image of himself, hoping that maybe that will help, almost as if this is some sort of super lame dating website profile or something. He doesn't look terribly confident-- actually, he kind of has resting Beedrill face?

[But he's nice. Really. And besides, what's that adorable little thing on his shoulder? Even if he can't make friends, Pikachu has always been able to.]

I'm nice.

Promise.

[So...anyone...?]

[ I mean. He's sure the guy's perfectly nice, but...here Allen is, out on the road in the outskirts of Verens, avoiding people and friendships, when some guy's face appears in his head looking for friends??? He did not ask for this. Did someone sign him up for some telepathic friendship service? ]

Aren't you going to include anything about yourself? Likes, dislikes, blood type? [ He's only half sarcastic. ]

[And now he's kind of embarrassed that he did! But...at least he's talking to someone right now. Allen isn't the only one that's been avoiding people, and Red is tired of it.]

[If only she knew just how much he needed one right now. Red thinks of her immediately when he sees Eleanor, hears her call him "dear". It makes his heart ache painfully, and that emotion projects itself without his meaning it to. He swallows down a small lump in his throat, shrugging weakly in response.

[He has been lonely. He's been so lonely - somehow more lonely than he had been the past three years he'd spent isolated on Mt. Silver.

[Funny what sorts of things will finally bring that feeling out in people.]

I'm...OK.

[That's a lie. He shakes his head a little, like he's trying to shake it off.]

[Once again, Pikachu has proven useful toward Red's little friend-gathering experiment. Red's certainly happy to talk about his little friend - much more so than he is to talk about himself. Pokémon are much more interesting, anyway.

[Pikachu trills from his shoulder:] Pi-ka pi!

[There might actually be a couple of sparkles that crop up in the air next to Red's head when Pikachu chimes in. He clearly adores this little rat.]
