[And now, Red's entry for the "Most Pathetic Thing You Could Possibly Post" contest:]
I need friends.
[There it is. He's been hiding in the woods and avoiding everyone for the last three months, and what happens while he's gone? People start making friends, and he doesn't.
[He's tired. He's lonely. But most of all, he's socially awkward.
[He projects an image of himself, hoping that maybe that will help, almost as if this is some sort of super lame dating website profile or something. He doesn't look terribly confident-- actually, he kind of has resting Beedrill face?
[But he's nice. Really. And besides, what's that adorable little thing on his shoulder? Even if he can't make friends, Pikachu has always been able to.]
I'm nice.
Promise.
[So...anyone...?]

Asking first is a nice way to go about it, but perhaps an introduction would be better? Say, your name and things that you like!

[It takes him a minute, but eventually he does actually open his mouth and say:] Red.
[He points to himself. When he points at Pikachu, the creature chirps curiously.]
Pi-ka-chu?
[There! That introduces the both of them and gives an example of what he likes.
[Nailed it?]

[ I mean. He's sure the guy's perfectly nice, but...here Allen is, out on the road in the outskirts of Verens, avoiding people and friendships, when some guy's face appears in his head looking for friends??? He did not ask for this. Did someone sign him up for some telepathic friendship service? ]
Aren't you going to include anything about yourself? Likes, dislikes, blood type? [ He's only half sarcastic. ]
no subject
[Does he even? Know his blood type???
[He...shrugs.]
I just...wanted to try.
[And now he's kind of embarrassed that he did! But...at least he's talking to someone right now. Allen isn't the only one that's been avoiding people, and Red is tired of it.]
What do you...want to know?

What is that?
[She obviously means the Pikachu but what is saying that?? Feel free to misunderstand or maybe it's easy to figure out what she means.]

[He thinks so too. So, he answers without hesitation (without using his actual voice, of course).]
Pikachu.
My friend.

[He has been lonely. He's been so lonely - somehow more lonely than he had been the past three years he'd spent isolated on Mt. Silver.
[Funny what sorts of things will finally bring that feeling out in people.]
I'm...OK.
[That's a lie. He shakes his head a little, like he's trying to shake it off.]
Lonely.
Yeah.

[There's a long pause. Then:]
Train.
Train Pokémon.

I think the normal first step is to talk about your hobbies and what... not.... okay what the heck is that thing.
[ He looks more excited than bothered by the Pikachu on his shoulder. ]
So many of you people have weird monsters like that!
no subject
[Pikachu trills from his shoulder:] Pi-ka pi!
[There might actually be a couple of sparkles that crop up in the air next to Red's head when Pikachu chimes in. He clearly adores this little rat.]
Pikachu.
A Pokémon.

[That's a...]
A Pokémon? [Whoops. He didn't mean to blurt that out. That's probably rude. But she has to be...right? Just one he's never seen before...
[Anyway. He nods, maybe a little too eagerly. Clearly he is ready to befriend any Pokémon or anything that even remotely reminds him of one.
[He should introduce himself, huh?]
Red.
[He points to himself, then to Pikachu.]

No one likes to be lonely, but it might help if you said a few things about yourself. For example, I'm Mamoru Chiba, I've recently started college before coming here, and I work at a doctor's office.
What's your name?
no subject
[Either way, he nods. Right, right. A name.]
I'm Red.
[He points to himself. What else, what else?]
I train Pokémon.

But a closer inspection reveals that this is not the one human he might consider his friend. And he has the feeling that Ash would be more forthcoming about trying to meet new people. Still, it's intriguing enough to warrant a conversation...]
Are you a Pokemon trainer?

[That's the best way to win over the ladies: cute animals. Whatever it is, it's very cute and she wants to meet it (and probably the owner too.)]
So you should have friends. I... I can be your friend.
[It doesn't help that she's also socially awkward to a degree, so they should be two peas in a pod here :')]
no subject
[He doesn't really notice that she's a bit awkward in her own way (she sure is pretty, though...).]
He's a Pikachu...
A Pokémon. [Red reaches up to scratch his little companion under the chin, and Pikachu trills happily.]
