when people discouraged me from transitioning, they used the same excuse a lot of people use today, that "its more progressive to be cis and gnc than it is to be a 'binary trans person'".

first off, no one transitions to be more "progressive". we transition because if we dont, we fucking die.

secondly, this just plain isn't true. cis gnc are not more oppressed or less privileged than any trans person. sure, gender nonconfromity is punished. but its punished by conservatives, by bigots, by people who are vehimently anti queer. there isn't a sizeable movement of people who support trans people wholeheartedly but spread hatred to specifically cis gender nonconfroming people. in fact, its literally the opposite. gender nonconfromity is pushed as an "alternative" to being trans. its seen in the people who literally told me "dont be trans, just be a femboy" to me when i was a teenager. its seen in the "i think that character is just feminine, why do you have to make everyone trans?". its seen in the "dont call people eggs, its actually rude to assume that someone is a trans woman"

to anyone who has ever said anything similar to the above, ask yourself why. ask yourself why being seen as trans, especially a trans woman, is so scary and terrifying to you. ask yourself why you sound indistinguishable from the people who tried to prevent me from transitioning. ask yourself why you think a caricature of a trans woman who doesn't demand respect or dignity is more appealing than an actual trans woman who does.
