Book Crow2

book reviews!

two reviews this time:

The Stormwarden's children have been kidnapped and Garrett, P.I. is on the case. But caught between the bewitching beauty of a half-elf and the fearsome power of a horde of ogres, Garrett has to think twice before sacrificing all for a fortune in gold-after all, even in this enchanted land, he's only human.

second in the Garrett, P.I. series (other reviews here), i didn't mind this one. not my favourite one so far, but out of 12 books they can't all be my favourite hehe. the one thing that bugged me a tad was the mention of the Stormwarden. which isn't just a title, but a type of mage. but they didn't really say how or what she does. minor point, but just saying.

Dante Valentine has been through Hell. Literally. Her body shattered and her mind not far behind, she's dumped back into her own world to survive--or not--as a pawn in one of Lucifer's endless games.

Unfortunately, he's just messed with the wrong Necromance. And this time she's mad enough to do something about it.

This time, the Devil will pay.

this was the last of the Dante Valentine series. i'm glad that Saintcrow didn't drag it on anymore. although a great series, if it went on much longer one could become somewhat tired of how much trouble Dante gets into. always on the run, always something trying to kill her, relationship angst (well what wouldn't it be when your love is a demon), and mages, gods, devils oh my! i am looking forward to starting her Jill Kismet series though and have the first in the series at home.

another book review

i became hooked on Glen Cook's Garrett, P.I. series when i read Whispering Nickel Idols. thankfully, not realizing at the time of reading it, it was the second LAST of a series. which meant i had more to read!

so getting my hands on the entire series in ebook format, i was able to start on 12 book series with:

It should have been a simple job. But for Garrett, a human detective in a world of gnomes, tracking down the woman to whom his dead pal Danny left a fortune in silver is no slight task. Even with the aid of Morley, the toughest half-elf around, Garrett isn''t sure he''ll make it out alive from a land where magic can be murder, the dead still talk, and vampires are always hungry for human blood.

it was a good story not only because the action and mystery, but because it explains about the undead roommate, the fiesty red headed love of his life, and how things really began. it introduces the characters i met in book 11 and begins the development of who they are. if you not only like a mystery story, but the works of Jack Zakour, Simon Green, Jim Butcher, i think you'll like this series of a PI in an updated fantasy world of pixies, vampires, ogres, unicorns, and more.

book review!

i haven't felt like posting lately. between being busy at work and having a cold, just wasn't in the mood. finally got some reading done and have a new series for you.

Whispering Nickel Idols by Glen Cook

In TunFaire, a city of gorgeous women, powerful sorcerers and dangerous magic, the beautiful, criminally insane daughter of a comatose crime boss has some lascivious designs on private investigator Garrett-who now has to figure out why everyone is suddenly after him.

this was a random pickup at a second hand bookstore. within just a few pages i became a fan. thankfully, although i read it in the wrong order, its part of a 12 book series. its very reminiscent of the Nightside series by Simon Green, but a lot less dark. with drunk fairies, a dead fellow who just won't leave, knockout redheads, a run of spontaneous human combustion, kittens, and crazy thugs in green pants... how could it NOT be a good book?!

i do believe that reading the rest of the series will help fill in some of the references in the book, but its not totally necessary.
