OR, why I think Dazai’s anger in this arc is going to boil over and how it’s going to be related to Fyodor using Chuuya. (Feat. the rule of three and Akutagawa parallels).

I’m not going to lie, I don’t think about Poe very much, (Constantly thinking about Ranpo though), but I do think their dynamic is really fun.
Their one sided rivalry is so funny because Ranpo is the only character in the entire series who is willing to admit someone is his friend without any tragedy pushing him into it, but Poe makes up for it by being comedically in denial about how much he likes Ranpo. And there’s not even any actual malice between them (except for like ten minutes where Poe trapped Ranpo in that murder mystery but they got over that really quickly), they just enjoy eachother’s company.
I also love that Ranpo’s go-to strategy is to just use Poe’s ability. If it works it works I guess.
I’ve heard people talk about how awkward the aftermath of Poe getting Yosano killed in the book must have been. And like yeah. I what his relationship with Yosano is like now. I kind of feel like she wouldn’t hold a grudge given the context though. (Also I’m pretty sure she might be Ranpo’s best friend. So I wonder if Ranpo was pissed at all or if he just let it slide due to the fact she didn’t actually die. Because neither him nor Yosano seem upset by it. I mean I’m sure it was a very upsetting situation but I feel Ike neither of them are the type of people who would allow that sort of thing to noticeably upset them in the long run. (Might have even been cathartic??) plenty of opportunity for very awkward conversations there though.)
As a ship? Funnily enough I do ship it. (Honestly it’s hard to see Poe’s feeling for Ranpo as anything but a crush) But like in a “oh there’s Ranpo’s supportive rich boyfriend. Good for them.” sort of way. They are like a parody of an enemies/rivals to lovers ship, and I adore that, but I don’t think about the ship all that often. (I also really enjoy throwing Mushitaro into their dynamic. It’s a good poly ship or third wheel situation or normal trio. Also just a really fun dynamic. Like, Ranpo and Mushitaro quickly became begrudging friends (on Mushitaro’s part. Willing friends on Ranpo’s part.) and then he was entrusted with Poe, and there’s that chapter where Poe tries to help him through his grief with writing and think that was a very sweet scene.)
(Ranpoe reminds me of Atsulucy a bit actually. Person who “hated” them from the guild who is now their number one fan and a very important ally who’s dimension-creating power is currently a great asset to the ADA. My main ships for the characters involved, but I never talk about them. Used for comedic relief. Though Atsulucy feels much more emotionally complex in the narrative of the manga than RanPoe is.)
I have been pondering on why I get so eye twitchy and pressed about everyone fawning over Odasaku as some sort of saint for taking in the children and praising his parenting abilities when he demonstrates absolutely zero parenting attributes and qualities.
And I realized it's because of my own lived experience. I was removed an abusive and neglectful household and "rescued" by some other family members who quite frankly were no better. Living with them was just a different flavour of abuse and neglect. However it was impossible to bring up issues or talk about what living them was like because nobody could get past their "noble sacrifice" of taking me in and it was lorded over me how eternally grateful I should be because they did that.
The amazing thing about Odasaku and part of what I love so much about him is he knew his limits. Yes the children needed saving and somewhere to go but he also knew what he could offer and sought out support for where he was lacking. But just like the situation with my family, a lot of fans cannot see past the charity of him taking them in. Like that is the only act that matters when it's barely the tip of the iceberg.
In my opinion, ao3 is by far the best website for fanfiction to date. As someone who's been actively participating in fandom spaces since they were 12 (longer if you count the years when I would only watch and read), I've been through my fair share of websites trying to find the best. Without a doubt, ao3's filter system is what makes it the cream of the crop. In ye old fandom days, there was no telling what you'd run into which gave rise to specific terminology that'd go in fic titles. Think lemons. Even then there was always the chance you'd get hit with a surprise. If you think untagged character death is bad, then I need you to understand, there is nothing that will prepare you for the sudden whiplash that comes from reading something soft and fluffy that hard veers into the most violent and raunchy piece of work you've ever set your eyes on.
Fanfiction.net, Wattpad, if you were a special breed you might have used Quotev of DeviantArt. There's a reason a lot of older fans lord ao3 as the king saviors, and that's the tagging system. The problem is, especially for a lot of younger fans, learning how to use that tagging system. So for newbies and old hats alike, consider this a comprehensive guide to hunting for fics on ao3 without accidentally slamming face first into a tag you want nothing to do with!
It’s actually kind of wild that Dazai just kind of hung around Mori for an entire year after he killed the old boss before Dazai actually joined the mafia. And Mori discussed important mafia business with him at the time. Like, he was just this random ass kid who was just always there. I was always under the impression that Dazai might have lived with Mori during that year, just so he could keep a close eye on Dazai and make sure he didn’t kill himself. And honestly I can’t tell if it would be weirder if that were the case or if he just made dazai hang out in his office. Absolutely friendless behavior on Mori’s part.
