Hey there everybody! This is just a heads-up that we're pushing the deadline and posting date for the next issue back a month -- one of the mods is going to be traveling and might not have Internet access during the all-important editing stage. Hopefully that works for all of you, too! So the new deadline is September 3 and the new posting date is September 10, and as always you can sign up or change your sign up (or keep changing your sign up) until a week before the deadline, in this case August 28. Please do feel free to sign up, and encourage your friends to do the same!
Welcome to the sign-up post for Issue 11 of cornerflag! This issue's theme is:
Ladies Night
You may interpret this theme any way you wish, and you do not need to feature a female character to do so, although of course we would be delighted if you did! Feel free to be creative. This theme is also optional -- you're still free to write whatever you like, though we strongly encourage you to take up the theme, and stories that are written for the theme will be marked out for the readers' attention.
The usual rules and guidelines apply. Note: while we do our best to keep track of popular pairings in fandom, we can't always keep up with what's hot in clubs the editors have little interest in, so we accept sign-ups on trust that the twosome you choose is an uncommon one. If we do know that the pairing you want is not rare, we reserve the right to ask you to choose a different one.
To sign up, please leave a comment with the following information:
the club and characters you intend write for,
whether it's gen or slash (both m/m and f/f) or het,
and a pseudonym if desired. Please indicate as such if that's the case -- your comment will be duly screened.
Reminder: Each club is limited to only two stories (with certain exceptions -- see #8 on the list of rules and guidelines) and each writer may only sign up for one club. This post will be updated with a list of writers sorted by club, so you can see if all the slots for a particular club are taken up.
This sign-up post will stay open up to a week before the stories are due. The deadline for submitting your story is 3 September 2013, 11:59pm GMT. Please refer to the admin post for information on how to format and submit your story.
Issue 11 will be published on 10 September 2013.
We look forward to reading your stories! You are very welcome to join flaggeddown, our discussion community to chat, vent, and cheer people on.
2+2=2 Internazionale: Andrea Stramaccioni/Ivan Ramiro Cordoba
Happy reading! As always, feedback for the authors would be lovely and much appreciated. Authors, if you need to make any corrections to your stories, please comment here.
Hey all! Submissions are due in about a day. Hopefully that's not a surprise to anyone, but I know these things can creep up on you! If you need a 24-hour extension, go ahead and take the extra time, but if you could comment here and let us know that would be awesome! If you think you'll need more than 24 hours, either comment or email and we'll work it out. If you've already contacted us about an extension, you're all set, you don't need to ask again!
So... apparently submissions are due in three weeks. I KNOW, HOW DID THAT HAPPEN. So, just your friendly reminder that if you're not started yet you might want to think about doing that sometime soon, if you want to change your mind about what you're writing you can let us know in the sign-up post up to a week before the deadline, and if you do not get your fic beta'd by someone who understands what a semicolon is before submitting it you will make your editors cry. And, as always, if you need emotional support or just someone to chat with, flaggeddown is here for you!
Please remember: D-Day is JANUARY 25 2013, 11:59 PM GMT.
Hope you all had a lovely holiday season and are excited to start the new year! -m&s
Welcome to the sign-up post for Issue 10 of cornerflag! The theme for this issue is:
kicking it old school
Our initial thought was to encourage people to write about retired or older players, but you may interpret the theme in any way you choose, and you most certainly do not have to take it literally. Feel free to be creative! The theme is also optional -- you do not have to take it into account at all if you don't feel inspired to. Stories that are written for the theme will be marked out for the readers' attention.
If, conversely, you feel that a pairing you're interested in was once popular but is no longer so (especially since the theme may inspire a look back at older pairings), you can make a case to the mods and we'll consider it. (Preemptively: Gerrard/Alonso is not rare. It will never be rare. That's like trying to nominate Harry Potter for yuletide, okay, just don't.)

Hey there, cornerflag! First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate. Secondly, sorry for our long radio silence! (We know you didn't really miss us, shhhhh.) The reasons will become clear in a moment.
As you may or may not know, we (stickmarionette and meretricula) signed on to look after cornerflag for a year while our founder and Mama Mod, lemongrasstea, took a sabbatical to get settled in after some RL changes. Our year is up and we're ready to hand cornerflag back to its proper owner, but... we haven't heard from Lem and she hasn't responded to our efforts to get in touch, so we're a bit at a loss as to how. If any of you has a way to contact her besides messages on Dreamwidth, could you let her know that we're trying to get in touch?
In the meantime, it's time and past for the next round of sign-ups. Would you guys rather just go ahead with that (tentative theme: "kicking it old school", open to revision if all y'all hate it), or wait until lemongrasstea is back? It may be awhile, and we're already late for the usual schedule, but we feel a little weird about outstaying our lease on the modship, so we'll leave it up to you! You can comment to let us know how you feel, or you can email 5thoffical (at) gmail (dot) com or message us directly on the mod journal or our personal accounts if you'd rather speak privately. We love cornerflag and want to make sure it keeps going as long as possible, and we know you all do too!
A Just Reward England: Jordan Henderson/Stewart Downing
Shaq and Awe Switzerland: Gökhan Inler/Ricardo Rodriguez, adult
Happy reading! As always, feedback for the authors would be lovely and much appreciated. Authors, if you need to make any corrections to your stories, please comment here.
So submissions are due in less than two weeks! Ahahahaha yes. That snuck up on all of us. Get writing! Write like the wind! If you're already done I hate you for making me feel inferior!
THE OFFICIAL DEADLINE IS JULY 18TH. Let this date be written in flames on your Google Calendar, etc. If you need an extension contact us and we can work it out on an individual basis. If you need to drop out you don't have to notify us but it's nice to know ahead of time! If you want to change your mind about what you're writing you have until midnight on the 11th.
Any other questions, you can always just ask! And flaggeddown is here to comfort you in times of writerly distress.
Finally, please please please make sure your submissions are spell-checked and grammar-checked and tense-shift-checked and in the correct format described on the FAQ page and all of these lovely things before you send them in. We feel really strongly about making sure cornerflag is a polished, high-quality product, but we also both have day jobs now. The less we have to do to fix things up before posting, the less psychotic your mods are!
Hope you all enjoyed the Euros and are excited for the Olympics! And, of course, cornerflag. We sure are!
Welcome to the sign-up post for Issue 9 of cornerflag! Since this is an Olympic summer, this will be a special international issue and the theme is:
citius altius fortius
You may interpret the theme any way you wish (feel free to be creative!), or you can ignore it altogether, but you do have to sign up for an international rather than club twosome, and you do have to set your story during a time when both players were active members of the same team. Stories that are written for the theme will be marked out for the readers' attention.
The usual rules and guidelines apply. Note: while we do our best to keep track of popular pairings in fandom, we can't always keep up with what's hot in teams the editors have little interest in, so we accept sign-ups on trust that the twosome you choose is an uncommon one. If we do know that the pairing you want is not rare (a good rule of thumb: if it has its own comm, it definitely doesn't qualify for cornerflag), we reserve the right to ask you to choose a different one.
To sign up, please leave a comment with the following information:
the country and characters you intend write for,
whether it's gen or slash (both m/m and f/f) or het,
and a pseudonym if desired. Please indicate as such if that's the case -- your comment will be duly screened.
Reminder: Each team is limited to only two stories (with certain exceptions -- see #8 on the list of rules and guidelines) and each writer may only sign up for one country. This post will be updated with a list of writers sorted by team, so you can see if all the slots for a particular country are taken up.
This sign-up post will stay open up to a week before the stories are due. The deadline for submitting your story is 18 July 2012, 11:59pm GMT. Please refer to the admin post for information on how to format and submit your story.
Issue 9 will be published on 25 July 2012, when the football tournament at the Olympics begins.
We look forward to reading your stories! You are very welcome to join flaggeddown, our discussion community to chat, vent, and cheer people on.
ETA: for some reason livejournal is screening random comments! This is very annoying! But they all make their way to our inbox, screened or not, so don't worry about it, your signup will be seen and noted and we'll unscreen as soon as we can.
