I think it's because the first fic I ever read in this fandom was a post-Calamity revived Champions one where Urbosa was acting as a major mom figure to the younger Champions and I'm nostalgic for that. But damn I am so soft for any Mombosa content.
I love the idea of (post-Calamity revived Champions au) Urbosa keeping a real close eye on Zelda, Link, Mipha and Revali because it's so hard to readjust to all this after the trauma they've all been through, and they're all really just teenagers.
Like, Mipha obviously still has her family - but she doesn't have a mom in the picture. Urbosa making a special effort to make sure Mipha feels comfortable coming to her about anything she might feel uncomfortable going to her dad or brother about, and organising frequent girls days for her and Zelda where the three of them just get together and gossip and Urbosa makes sure they're both taking it easy and recovering.
Both Link and Revali are, understandably, less willing to open up to her about anything. But she notices that both of them visit. Often . Revali doesn't even complain about having to wear vai clothes. Link sometimes stays for weeks at a time. Revali even tones down his snark when he visits - albeit only a little bit.
They don't talk about it, but she can tell that both of them are struggling. Of course they are. They don't know anyone in this new world. Revali especially - it's hard to come back to your old home and not to know anyone, to find everything changed. She's in the same boat herself. However Urbosa is good at making new friends and forming new relationships - and Revali is.....Revali. His old flock grew up with him and knew his...quirks. They were used to his egocentric sass and cutting tongue and they liked him anyway because that's just how he has always been. But his new Village doesn't know him, and he's not assimilating as easily as everyone else is.
Then Link, it's hard for him to go back to a life he doesn't really remember. He's traumatised by his battles, he's trying to continue his duties but he's not really needed anymore and he's lost.
Urbosa just taking them both under her wing. Inviting them to stay as often as they want and never pushing them to open up, but being more patient with Revali's snappiness than usual, and offering Link a silent hug from time to time when she can tell he needs to be touched and grounded. She never asks why they're visiting or when they're going to leave, she makes sure they both know she is always happy to see them.
I am so soft for the idea that even without any words being spoken, both the boys learn to trust her and let themselves be at least a tiny bit vulnerable around her.
Sometimes she wakes up and rather than being in the guest room, at some point in the night Revali has let himself in and set up a hammock in her room. She never mentions it and neither does he. But it happens every now and then and it makes her smile that he feels he can come and be close to her when he's having nightmares.
Sometimes when she's sat with Link at a campfire or in the evenings, he'll lean into her slightly and she knows it's a cue to allow her to stroke his hair or put an arm around him. Sometimes he falls asleep on her shoulder. She's glad he feels a rare safety in her arms and she's always happy to offer it.
This is all wordvomit but hhh. Just. Mombosa taking care of all her traumatised war companions.
Having the calamity sealed, Revali had already confessed his love to Princess Zelda. There was another thing he wanted to share with her. He met her on her balcony as he always did. The Princess was thrilled to see him. "There is something I wanted to give you." Zelda looked puzzled at him. Revali unfolded a shining gold feather in a cloth. "This used to belong to my mother. It was given to her from my father." Revali took a deep breath. "I.. want you to have it." He turned away in embarrassment. "WHAT AM I DOING?!" He shouted in his mind.
"Revali.... are you?" Before Zelda could finish, she looked at the feather so tenderly. With all the flustered emotions of the world, Revali was about to burst. "Marry me." He sincerely looked into her eyes. With the gold feather in her hand, she placed her hand over her mouth. Zelda's eyes watered. "Yes!"
Revali shocked but then tried to calm himself. "You mean it?" She held the feather in her hand. "Of course I do." She jumped and hugged him. Revali blushed. They held on to each other, feeling each other's heartbeat.
Time after they got married, Revali got the golden feather tinkered with and made it a bracelet for Zelda. The sun was about to rise. "Sleep little wing, It's too early." Zelda sighed in happiness. "I love that you're the first one I see when I awake and sleep." Revali chuckled, thinking the same. He held her close.
"I love you."
"I love you too." Zelda said softly.
The two embraced their new life together.
I used to not like Revali much at all, and just thought he was an ultra rude boy. But then the voice memos came out and I realized he’s a rude boy who loves Zelda.
