today i'm sick with a cold. but in the past month i went up to the bay area (california) with ashley and we checked out schools: santa cruz, san francisco state, and berkeley. (last night i had a dream i was going to go to santa cruz, hah). it was great being up there and going around town seeing the sites and visiting our friend Pierre. and last week i was really sick with some stomach flu, minor fever thing and i actually threw up while driving! serious. friday was "stick it to the man day" and sam and i saw U.S. vs. John Lennon and it was really good! i had no idea that john was being tracked by the FBI, that's just so crazy. poor john.
i've been digging some new music recently, Godspeed You! Black Emperor in particular. they're like ambient, indie, instrumental, modern classical. i don't have a whole lot going on.
Name the tune: 1. "handkerchiefs to match your tie, let it roll." 2. "this is my final fit, my final bellyache." 3. "let's swim to the moon."
well well well, it's seems you all got 22/30 correct! so if you wanna see the pictures that go along with the answers you can go check out the previous post HERE and here are the answers (italics mean nobody got it):
1-Donovan 2-The Greenhornes 3-The Doors 4-The Band 5-David Crosby 6-CCR 7-Cream 8-Bowie 9-The Velvet Underground 10-Simon & Garfunkel 11-Beatles 12-Bob Dylan 13-Incredible String Band 14-Neil Young 15-Allman Bros. 16-Jethro Tull 17-Ravi Shankar 18-Radiohead 19-Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan 20-Jimi Hendrix Experience 21-Led Zeppelin 22-Byrds 23-Lovin' Spoonful 24-Mamas and the Papas 25-Raconteurs 26-Graham Nash 27-King Crimson 28-Townes Van Zandt 29-Pink Floyd 30-Stephen Stills
so here's how it works, there are 30 pictures of bands and artists under the cut and you have to try and guess who's who by leaving a comment with the number and who you think it is. just don't do too many to give everyone a chance. good luck! :)
oh son, it's been a while. ashley was over last week and part of the one before. we hung with sam and went to canters 24 hour bakery, deli, and restaurant and i had some pasta there and it was TERRIBLE and then we went to the park and smelled the smell of the pasta there. it was weird, let me tell you. we also went into this field by century city and found this (i was about to call him homeless) person's house in the field and there all these kittens running around and he had this whole water collection setup. i don't think he or she was home. and ashley left on saturday. but we'll probably be seeing each other at the end of september to go check out colleges in the california bay area. should be fun!
today i started school and the advisory was pretty cool. not bad, not great. and we just talked about school and did get to know each other activities. it was really boring and unnecessary for seniors and juniors. and we couldn't even go out to lunch so the school ordered like 20 boxes of pizza for everybody. not bad. but it was followed by more bordom. for classes i think i'm going to be taking human rights, calculus, calculus-based physics, world literature, spanish, and jazz band. groovy.
and i still can't believe i met neil. not sinking in. really.
so last monday i went to the allergy doctor to get retested to see what i'm allergic to these days. my previous allergy are all pretty much getting better although i've developed an allergy to like 5 different grasses, crazy. and then i had to go down and get my blood drawn, i usually get pretty light-headed when people take my blood (as though that happens often) but i was fine this time! sam and i got together and hung out on wednesday and we were listening to tom waits when i said that i had to go pretty soon and sam asked where to and i said that i had to go this "Colleges That Change Lives" thing and it turned out that sam was going too! far out, i know. then later that night we wandered around bo(if-you-cant-tell,my-icon-is-simon-and-garfunkel)oth to booth talking to colleges about their most popular classes, social life, etc. i really didn't find anything.. at all. but on the bright side i picked my dad up from the airport (my first airport pick-up) and then when we got home he made me clean my room and i found this jimi hendrix bbc sessions cd that i bought a year and four days ago! it was still in the plastic! still in the amoeba music bag! and now i'm listening to it and it's unbelievable! if you're a fan of hendrix this is a must have. for serious.
a couple weeks ago sam and i worked on writing a couple little ditties for guitar and mandolin and i brought a tape recorder so we got them on tape and i put them on the computer today so you can listen if you so desire by clicking right HERE. groovy. :)
so last night my friend nick and i went to the Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young concert! the music was fantastic!! they played neil's new album (living with war), keep on rockin' in the free world, only love can break your heart, for what it's worth, tree-top flyer, carry on, our house, military madness, chicago, almost cut my hair, deja vu, wooden ships, long time gone, and others! and if you read this ellie, THANK YOU!!!
anyway, then at intermission ellie (stephen's daughter) called nick and i to tell us where to meet her. so we found her by the raffle lexus. then we were introduced to pegi young! she was sooo nice! (incase you can't tell nick and i are currently, in the story, going backstage) so then we were told that neil hurt his back and it was being iced while and he was in his bus. so nick and i were waiting to meet neil. we first met the security man in front of the bus, eric, he was a tight guy! then nick and i saw someone coming down the stairs of the bus !! and it wasn't neil. so nick and i could breath again, haha. keep in mind we're about 6 feet from the door of the bus! then we see another figure coming down the stairs !!! it's not neil. even if it was neil, what do you say??? what? then we go back to chatting and momentarily we see another figure coming down the stairs !!!! and it's neil!!! yes friends, neil young!! so he kinda walks by us a little and ellie comes and introduces us to neil! and we shook hands. neil asked us, "so, are you guys players?" we were a little confused by the question cause we didn't quite get that he was meaning musicians. so then we said yes. and ellie gave me friendly complements and i complemented nick, someone needed to. then neil said nice to meet you or something and we said the same and then he walked away! it was sooo far out!
after that nick and i kinda had to ride our high a little and then i think i stole a drink but i'm not sure haha. you might ask how that works. then we sat down and saw the rest! it was such a good show!
apart from that i've just been doing a lot of work, solitaire, recording, and listening to music. starting to get into donovan, any album recommendations? hope you all are groovy :)
haha, i'm still saying to myself "i met neil young?..no" :9
well, even though i never said i was leaving, i did. i went to Maine to see ashley on June 21 and we did lots of fun things before we headed off to music camp (in connectasicut) the week after. we started watching House M.D. (season 1) which was awesome! a favorite show now. he's just so damn miserable. anyway, at camp we majored in Acoustic 2 the first week. the first week everybody kept asking us about how we met, if it's hard having a long distance relationship, we were a topic at camp. it was pretty funny really. the second week me majored in songwriting which was a great class, without a doubt! i got a couple good songs out of it and ashley got 5! when we came back it was really warm and we watched the second season of House.. illegally. and ashley's dad took me, just me, to a maine animal zoo. it was sad really. tiny cages and big animals. although the moose was quite a sight! i'd never seen one so close before. i got a lot of new cds: James Taylor's Sweet Baby James, Blind Faith's only album, Nick Drake's Bryter Layter, The Raconteurs (white stripes meets greenhornes)'s Broken Boy Soldiers, The Greenhornes' East Grand Blues, Radioheads OK Computer, Graham Nash's Songs For Beginners, The Velvet Underground Millenium Collection (only because it had live stuff, which turned out to not be very good), and The Lovin' Spoonful's Greatest Hits. that's all i can remember because most of my cds are in my suitcase, which didn't make it back with me. i got on a standby flight to LA because my plane to Washington-Dulles was delayed so i missed my original plane and had to catch another. We were just sitting on the ground for like 2 hours because of the weather in washington. they booked me for a flight that left at 6:30am (that's about 3 hours ago) but i got on standby. it's weird being home, but i guess i'll get used to it. i'll start commenting and such again now :)
long time no update. at least i still comment :) today i went over to my harrison's house and we jammed for a while (myself-guitar, harrison-drums) and then we recorded a song on his computer using this wurlitzer piano midi plug-in and drums and it sounded pretty groovy! we also had breakfast (pasta carbonara) and some english tea, from london. and as i left harrison gave me a leather jacket that he said brian left there, although i've never seen brian wear that jacket in my life. but whatever, i'll give it to him. i'm sure he'll take it.
i've been downloading some bootlegs recently and i got the big sur folk festival (1969) and it's really awesome! CSNY had an amazing set, although they only show 2 and 1/5 songs on the dvd. and i also got this buffalo spingfield bootleg (missing herd) that is these live shows compiled together! in the beginning they can't decide what song to play and neil's like, "should we play that one i don't know?.. oops, didn't mean to say that so close to the mic.." it was silly. i'm really excited to see CSNY on the 31st of july!
the weather is so great these days, kinda cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon (around 75/80) with a little breeze. to die for.
it's been a while, but i've recorded a new song and i saw ravi shankar live last night! i kept falling asleep because it was late and i was sooo tired! he and his daughter (and everybody else there) were amazing!! they were like insanely awesome at the sitar, ravi was pretty damn good for 86! (we have the same b-day). they were just like da-diri-diri-diri-da-ra-da-ra-da-diri-da-diri-ra-da-da X10000! (sitar speak). I'm gonna see ringo over the summer with ashley and that should be groovy! and i hope to see CSNY at the hollywood bowl, that would be amazing, i'm gonna try my hardest to get tickets! all the leaves are brown, yeah, not any more it's getting nice and warm out! brian and i went and played Vivaldi's Concerto In D Major today for these junior high school kids at Mark Twain middle school and that took like 10 minutes and then i went over to brian's and we worked on our spanish project and watched part of the M*A*S*H* movie and behind the music. I'm going to see ashley on may 26! school's almost over. i'm going chocolate tasting on friday and then over to the ROXY to see the fez armada, should be groovy! neil's new album ought to be something! hah
fshooo! as neil would say. right now the breeze is coming in through my window and i'm listening to the monterey pop festival (1967). it feels like the middle of summer and i just got back from an east coast college trip and seeing ashley! i've made music with some groovy people, i was in 6 different states within 7 days, i saw 16 colleges, i roamed new york city at midnight, i got tons of new music (16 cds), i wrote a whole song on my arm while walking to Serendipity (in new york). Ashley and i went to school, we had a chocolate/coconut cake shaped like a bunny, we saw neil's Human Highway, we saw the snow fall for one night, we snuck into V FOR VENDETTA, we celebrated my birthday on friday (april 7), we jammed on down by the river for something like 20 minutes, and we did a whole lot more and it was all groovy :)
